Cabo Fishing Report – Two Dorado Caught in Warm August Water
August 28, 2026
2 Dorado Caught During a Five-Hour Cabo Fishing Charter
Two dorado highlighted a productive late-August morning for five anglers fishing aboard the 43-foot Riviera Blue Sky with Captain Luis. Jerod from Charleston, Troy and Dale from Cedar Rapids, Max from St. Paul and Phil from Minneapolis headed offshore for a five-hour charter and returned with two of Cabo's most recognizable warm-water game fish.
Fishing ran from 6:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The crew also deployed the dredge fishing system as part of the offshore presentation while searching exceptionally warm water for bait and active pelagic fish.

Dorado Deliver the Morning's Cabo Fishing Action
Dorado are an ideal species for adding excitement to a shorter offshore charter because the action can change quickly once fish are located.
Their aggressive strikes are only the beginning. A hooked dorado can accelerate rapidly, change direction without warning and explode from the water during the fight. Their brilliant colors also make them one of the most visually impressive fish encountered around Cabo San Lucas.
For this group, two dorado rewarded the morning's search and provided the main fishing action before the 11:00 AM return.

Five-Hour Charter
Rather than a high-volume catch, the morning produced two quality examples of a species closely associated with Cabo's warm late-summer fishing season.
Dredge Fishing Adds Attraction Behind Blue Sky
An important feature of this charter was the use of the dredge.
The system creates the appearance of a concentrated group of baitfish moving behind the boat. This provides a larger underwater visual presentation than individual trolling lures alone and can help attract the attention of offshore predators.
Captain Luis and the crew could combine the dredge presentation with observations of the surrounding water while looking for:
Bait concentrations
Working or diving birds
Current lines
Floating debris or weed
Visible surface activity
Dorado often associate with areas where food and cover become concentrated, making these visual clues particularly useful when searching offshore.
Exceptionally Warm August Water
Water temperature was approximately 88.9°F during the August 28 charter. Air temperatures began in the upper 70s to low 80s before warming as the morning progressed.
Early winds were generally under 10 knots, while offshore sea conditions were described as manageable with relatively light surface movement.

Five Hours Produce Two Cabo Dorado
This August 28 trip is also a useful example of what can happen during a five-hour fishing charter.
Longer trips provide more time and range to search offshore, but productive water does not always require an entire day to reach. When bait and game fish are accessible, a well-managed morning can still provide quality action.
Captain Luis had five hours to work with, and the crew used the dredge while continuing to search the warm offshore water for signs of activity.
For Jerod, Troy, Dale, Max and Phil, that effort resulted in two dorado.
With 88.9°F water, light early wind and a specialized dredge presentation working behind Blue Sky, the August 28 charter became a compact example of late-summer fishing in Cabo San Lucas: five anglers, five hours and two dorado brought to the boat.
