SOA Charters - Winchester Bay 

My two sons and i booked a last minute trip for the next day to fish for Coho and crab with SOA. Travis was great communicating the details of the trip. Tom and Fred did an awesome job on the boat keeping us in the fish. Ive been on charters were the captain wont let clients touch rods or equipment, they would hook a fish and hand you the rod. This team really let us be involved in the whole process from making tackle adjustments to checking bait, it was perfect. We had a fantastic trip. Would highly recommend this team.

Good trip. Caught limt of rock fish with a couple ling cod. Rough seas for size of boat. Try to plan for a calm day.

Tom took our family of four out for salmon fishing near the mouth of the Umpqua. We're all new to charter fishing. He was happy to answer our dumb questions and we learned a lot from him. He really accommodated our interests and he looked after everyone to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I wouldn't hesitate to fish with him again.

We enjoyed Josh and Mark as crew. The boat had an enclosed cabin, helpful in the cold wind. We didn’t catch much but will enjoy fresh Chinook salmon for dinner tonight!

What a great experience with Captain Travis on the river going after smallmouth. He is extremely knowledgeable, great with his gear and an all around good guy to spend 7 hours on a boat with! Do not hesitate to book an outing with SOA Charters, you will not be disappointed!

The day for our anticipated salmon trip was here. Met at the dock early only to have to boat. Messaged captain half hour later and he said he was overbooked and unable to take us until afternoon. A big disappointment since it was our last day on the coast and we were up at 5am. 12:30 came around and captain Travis pulled in. We waited another half hour for him to go buy more bait. Finally on board at 1:30 with no introduction by captain, no safety briefing, no explanation of what to expect, etc. He was very knowledgeable but very intense. His job was to get us where the fish were biting, and he did. We’re listening to Coast Guard radio about high surf at the mouth of the river and we became a bit concerned, yet we continued. A simple explanation from the captain would have been nice. Overall, our captain did his job about getting into the fish. Maybe because the other fishermen were returning customers and he was a little thrown that we were added last minute, the captain forgot about a safety briefing which we believe to be important and he seemed ill-prepared. There were also rusty tools and hooks strewn about. An hour of the six-hour trip started slow, but we ripped thru the incoming swells and found the fish. Felt bad for one customer who lost his fish and the captain seemed to belittle him for not following his shouted instructions. All guests got what the came for. Sadly, their charter was $100 less because they booked direct. Well know next time.

This is the first time out on a boat in the ocean. We got crab , many rockfish & 1 cod. I would do it again anytime !

My husband and I were expecting a fun morning on the ocean catching a few salmon. Thanks to Captain Travis and his helper, Corey, it turned into an epic adventure we will never forget! The swells were really rolling, but Travis handled everything like a seasoned pro and we had complete confidence in his abilities. This was made even more evident as we watched other boats struggle. They were also so cheerful, helpful and patient as we each caught our limit of salmon. I would go fishing with Travis and Corey every time!

What a wonderful experience, my father my son and myself caught our limit and had an absolute blast with Captain Travis. Knowledgeable and efficient while keeping it fun I would highly recommend. Tylan is the best first mate that anybody could ever have worked hard and tirelessly to make sure that all the rods were baited and in the water so we were always catching fish. thank you guys so much
