Salmon fishing is always fun, but going after these underwater VIPs in Alaska is about as good as it can get. Chinook Salmon just happens to be Alaska's state fish for over half a century, and for all the good reasons. They're abundant in this area, will definitely pose a challenge to reel in, and make the best meal you could ask for. You should also be on the lookout for Coho and Sockeye, that could just as easily find their way to your cooler.
The optimal time to fish Kenai River and make the most of it is between mid-May and September when the bite is red-hot and so is the fun you'll have. Capt. Mel is a Salmon fishing specialist since he's been doing it for almost 3 decades.
He'll provide you with all the adequate fishing equipment including rods, reels, and tackle. Cleaning and filleting of your catch is also complimentary, so the results of your hard day's work can be on your table the same day.
The Captain will provide bait when allowed.
For starters, you'll come aboard a 30' Willie Predator rigged with an outboard 50 HP Yamaha engine to take you to the best fishing grounds. The vessel is fully outfitted to accommodate 5 persons fishing comfortably and wrestling their new personal Salmon record.

Half Day Trip - Salmon on August 7, 2021 • 3 adultsWe were not informed on what gear we would need to have when meeting the boat,.so we didn't have the proper gear.. This was our first experience fishing in Alaska we had no clue what was needed or what to expect. The guide was very unprofessional in the comments he made. He ended up losing 12 fish that were caught throughout day, they ended up being pulled out into the river because the stringer was not tied up properly. We lost all of them. We did end up with 5 more to bring home. The guide offered to take us out for free the next day but we would have to buy fishing licenses again. And after listening to politics and his comments all day, we opted to not go back out.

Full Day Trip - Salmon on June 16, 2021 • 4 adultsAdvertisement was deceptive, indicated “live bait”. While fishing we were told, no live bait could be used. I paid for a full day, packed food, and got 4 day licenses with king salmon stamps and fished 6 hours in the cold rain without so much as a single bite of any kind! Tad was very nice to offer extra clothing to keep us warm and offered to keep fishing. Howeve, I’ve since talked to 4 locals to find out salmon really haven’t been biting on the Kenai for the last couple of years. I wasted alot of money for the worst fishing trip of my life. I wish i could get at least a partial refund, but i doubt that will happen.
