Captain Avi Brijmohunsingh Ramchurn comes from a huge fishing family who have been exploring the waters of Grand-Baie for generations. He can't wait to use his wealth of knowledge and experience to introduce you to some true island-style fishing. Capt. Avi and his crew pay lots of attention to the tide and local weather forecast, and they use this to get you onto the hottest spots around. Get ready to reel in your dream catch!
You'll be traveling onboard an impressive 40' Speville Craft performance fishing vessel. She can accommodate up to 6 guests. Your vessel has plenty of room for battling big game fish, as well as a fighting chair. There's an interior cabin for you to relax in, too. She's decked out with all the necessary navigational and safety gear, including life jackets for children.
As for the species on offer? It's all about battling big game here! Mahi Mahi, a variety of Tuna…and don't forget the main attraction, seriously huge Blue or Black Marlin! These guys are seriously fun to fight, whether you're a new or experienced angler. Your captain and crew will have a variety of lures on offer that are suitable for different techniques of fishing, such as trolling, jigging, popping, casting, and deep diving. You'll also be equipped with top-notch Shimano rods and reels.

My partner and I did a fishing charter with Rocky, Trishy and Michael and had a great time. The crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. They did everything in their power to find fish, constantly scouring the horizon for birds and for splashes. We had a great time on board and managed to come home with a few Bonito. Would definitely recommend booking a charter with Captain Avi and his team - we will be back when the Yellowfin arrive!

We met Avi this morning, who is the most helpful guy ever. We were out for a morning trip, which sadly we had to cut short due to my youngest being ill. But the experience whilst out was awesome. Lost a small tuna early on, but caught a wahoo later on, to give me my first experience of catching a game fish. Avi is a knowledgeable, friendly and guy who goes out of his way to look after his customers. If we cam back to Mauritius id definitely go out with Avi again, just leave the kids at home haha. Great day out, very tidy clean boat, big and comfortable. Captain and crew were friendly and professional and made sure we all caught something. Not a lot biting on the day but crew worked hard to make sure we didn’t go home empty handed. Great boat and trip for a family with kids.

We met up with Avi at 6:15am at a nice restaurant parking lot. It was a short walk to the anchored boat. Avi explained how we were hunting for specific bird formations to find our target species (mahi). He explained the rigs and strategy we were using well. All very interesting! It was awesome to watch the Mahi skim the surface while hunting baitfish. We also saw schools of flying fish jumping out of the water. All of our setups were topwater — so you could see a fish approach and strike the lures. We caught 5 fish. Three skipjack tuna and two Mahi, one bull and one female. Overall a great experience!

Because of this, he developed a taste for the sea at a very young age. His father taught him the rules of traditional Mauritian fishing, and he loves passing this information on to his guests. Get ready to experience a true island-style angling adventure! Capt. Avi worked as a fisherman on fishing boats, as well as a skipper on a catamaran, a water ski instructor, and a diving instructor. He moved to Switzerland in 2005 for 10 years, and only had one dream: to return to Mauritius to start his big game fishing and tourist services! He can't wait to share the love he has for fishing and his island. He likes to say that his wife Valérie was 'gradually convinced by the project's madness', and this is how Horizon Maurice was born in 2018!
