Setting off from Barnegat, Tommyboy Fishing Charters is ideally located to fish the inshore bays, inlets, and backwaters of the New Jersey bays protected by its many jetties and islands from the Atlantic. They're also in a prime position to start an ocean fishing excursion, and Captain Thomas Welsh can take you up to 25 miles offshore. With over 25 years of experience in the region, he's just the man to guide these exciting tours.
Trips take place aboard a 26' Pursuit center console, designed to easily navigate the shallow backwaters, and drift across the bumpy open ocean. Powered by twin 200 HP Suzuki engines, it reaches speeds of up to 35 knots, getting you to the hottest spots as quickly as possible. She's been equipped with your comfort and safety in mind, with a toilet, an ice box for your snacks and drinks, and all safety equipment needed.
In this part of the world, there's one fish that stands out above the rest, the Striped Bass. On all tours you'll head out hoping to catch a boatful of these exciting, not to mention tasty creatures. You'll be handed rods, reels, tackle, and lures to cast with, with live bait also waiting for you aboard. On trips further offshore, you'll get the chance to hunt for some bigger game fish, but whichever trip you choose, you're in for an unforgettable day.
Children over 7 years old are welcome on board and will be provided with appropriate life jackets. Capt. Tom is an easy-going, fun-loving captain, who is passionate about fishing, and wants to see everyone enjoy themselves. Therefore, alcohol is permitted aboard, but hard liquor is not. Captain Tom and Joe were fantastic- easygoing, attentive, and serious about finding good fishing and making sure everyone got a catch. They kept us on fish all morning long moving from spot to spot to keep the bite hot. We pulled in 5 keepers on a day where every other boat in the marina took none (!). Super fun & memorable trip, looking forward to coming back for more. Can’t recommend these guys enough!!!!

Captain Tom and Mate Joe were great hosts which made the day better. Also make sure to ask for the trybein when aboard the vessel!

We left the marina with Captain Tom at 7:30 and headed for the ocean. Captain Tom took us to the perfect spot at 8:06 my grandson caught a fluke, by 8:18 my granddaughter age 17 was reeling in one too, a great start to the day! At last count they caught a total of 16, we don't eat fish so back they went. Maybe next time we'll keep a few. The experience was excellent. The boat is in great condition and he provided all gear, bait, and for the unexperienced guidance, encouragement, and a lesson on how to read the instruments. Captain Tom came highly recommended for all skill levels and did not disappoint! We're looking forward to scheduling an outing next month!
