Portland is the largest city in Oregon, so it’s only fitting that it’s home to some of the NW’s greatest freshwater angling opportunities – it is the meeting point of the Columbia and Willamette rivers, after all! When it comes to exploring these freshwater fisheries, make Hazen’s Guide Service your first point of call. You’ll soon be drifting away from the city and down these rivers for the chance to hook anything from Sturgeon, to Steelhead, to Salmon.
Fishing is Captain Mike Hazen’s greatest passion, and it shows – as well as having over 15 years of experience in the angling industry, he dedicates time to observing local weather reports, fishing reports, and regulations, to make sure that he’ll guide you to the hottest spots these rivers have to offer. Whether you’re a newbie or an experienced angler, Capt. Mike will soon have you trying out techniques and reeling in your catch like a true freshwater fanatic.
You’ll be cruising the river on board a 22’ River Wild aluminum vessel, built to comfortably guide up to 6 anglers to where the fish are biting. Along with your captain’s expert knowledge, you’ll find GPS and fishfinder to help locate the hotspots, as well as life jackets in a variety of sizes. Your vessel is built for a variety of fishing techniques, so you’ll have the chance to troll, jig, spin, bottom fish, and drift fish for your trophy Steelhead or Salmon.
Depending on when you join Capt. Mike the species you’ll be reeling in will vary – come during Salmon season, and you’ll have the chance to hook Chinook and Coho varieties. If you’ve missed Salmon season, don’t worry, as huge prehistoric Sturgeon inhabit both the Columbia River and Willamette River all year round, and provide plenty of fun, rod-bending action. You’ll also have the chance to tangle lines with Steelhead, too.
Your trip includes rods, reels, lures, and tackle. Just bring a fishing license, and come discover Portland’s incredible fishing opportunities with Hazen’s Guide Service!

I loved my fishing trip. Captain Mike was professional, and a good conversationalist. I was lucky one to catch the fish and have the time of my life.
I started fishing at an early age and from there it became my primary passion. I spent many days enjoying time on the water with friends and family and I even spent a couple summers commercial fishing for Tuna and Rockfish during my college years. Eventually I earned a degree in fisheries and started a career in research and aquaculture. Still yearning for more time on the water fishing I decided to get my captain's license to become a fully certified fishing guide. Hazen's Guide Service LLC was formed soon after with the help of my lovely wife. Together we run a family owned business that strives to give all of our guests a top notch experience from start to finish.
