Rockaway Fishing Charters 

Anyone who thinks fishing is boring has clearly never gone with Captain Tom LaCognata. We experienced a veritable Sharknato on the water. Caught twelve total, including some 150-pound-plus bruiser browns, a super rare hammerhead and a spinner for dinner (tasted like leaner swordfish). Everyone caught at least three fish, equating to around one every 45 minutes— a good day for stripers let alone the ocean’s apex predator. Tom and his team worked swift and tirelessly like an angling pit crew, putting out chum bags, snagging bunker and gaffing and roping the sharks — a difficult task—like clockwork. Truly one of the best times I’ve ever had on the water.

This was my wife and I's first ocean fishing experience and Captains choice was the best choice. We caught quite a few fluke, some sea robins, one dogfish shark, and a large skate. If you are looking to target a specific species just reach out and they will advise you honestly abut the best time of year and honest chances of success. Wonderful people and we will be back with our children next time!

I took five 12-13 yo boys on this fishing trip and it exceeded our expectations! Tom was easy to communicate with before the trip, including rescheduling due to weather. His boat is comfortable and well-maintained. Most of all, he and his partner were so engaging and helpful in getting the boys fishing. We caught 23 sea bass so needless to say, it was not only a memorable day, but one they will remember for years to come. We felt taken care of the entire time. Thank you Tom!! We can’t wait to fish with you again.

Just got back from today’s fishing trip with these guys. My family and I had an awesome experience with this crew. I highly recommend them and give 5-stars all around. Captain Tom really knows the waters and they really care about their guests. Despite today being a choppy day we still had plenty of catches. They were also so giving of their knowledge, experience and were so good with my two sons (age 7 & 5). Definitely go with these guys, you will not be dissapointed!

I really enjoyed the fishing trip. My husband was surprised because he thought he was going on a big charter boat like we usually do. This year I decided to do something special. Let me tell tell you, Captain Captain and his crew man did not disappoint. They were there to help anyone with fishing. They gave advice on fishing and things to do in the future. The atmosphere was very laid-back. I would never do a big chargeable again. I will always do a private charter from this day forward and I’m only going fishing on the “Goin Fishing” boat if you’re thinking of doing a private charter boat, let this be your first stop. You will not be disappointed and last, but not least we left with plenty of Seabass, that was caught.
