Daily Fishing Trips in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.

Come fishing with the experts on the MV Manutere, we take fishers out to enjoy a days reef fishing for the best eating fish. You keep what you catch so you can share with your family and friends on your return.

Brett see’s his mission as finding the fish for you to catch. He If you haven’t fished before, he’ll teach you how. Brett has been working on the water for 30 odd years now and experience speaks for itself!
The Manutere is set up to take out day trips with up to 25 people and 24 hour trips for up to 10 people. Targeting tarakihi, snapper, trevally, John Dory and all those other beautiful bottom dwellers fit for a kings table.

We also take out 12 and 24 hour trips for the deeper dwellers like Hapuku, Bass, Gemfish and Bluenose. These guys feed in 200 - 300 metres deep so its a real thrill to see one come to the surface. We fish for the deep dwellers mostly around Mayor island (Tuhua) which is one of the most scenic islands in New Zealand. Motiti island is the other beautiful island off our shores where its shallower to fish for the table species and Brett has so many spots around the island to find fish, he’ll keep looking till he finds them.

We not only supply and teach you to use the fishing gear, but we also throw in the expertise of an experience skipper, one of the best in the bay.
You can join us at the Bridge Marina where we are berthed or we can pick you up from Salisbury wharf at Mount Maunganui.

If you are on your own and want to join a public day, we can do that. If you are part of a group and would like to hire Brett and the boat for a special charter we can do that too.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Brett Keller the owner/operator takes great pride in putting his passengers onto the fish - consistently. This is reflected by our regular customer base. The fact is, we try harder.

when we rang a booked we were told it was a deep bottom fish approx. around a 10 hour trip
this was a Birthday present for a 70th and my son chaperon his grandfather.
I have since been told this is not the first time this boat has been overloaded to its capacity in the name of making a dollar .
I suggest you find another occupation as you have lost the passion as to why you probably started this venture in the first place .
The worse days fishing is better that the best day working .!!
but this was not made pleasurable by any means ,had you of provided what you stated and been able to head out to one of your better spots with less bodies on board you might have been able to produce some fish .
Also is my concern to your Safety briefing on the boat ? if something happens read the sign !!
My Grandfather whom cant swim had no idea where the life jackets were ? I took a look and an arrow indicated they were under eveybody’s gear !
A lot of good that is if the inevitable was to happen eh.
Yep cant say I would recommend you Charter in the future .

Hello Barry
We are licenced for 29 people. We booked up to 20 on a public day when it is busy -between a couple of weeks before Christmas and about 5 January. The day you went out there were 17 people on board.
To catch fish you need to at least put a line in the water.
Our safety record is 100% we have never had an incident or lost anyone overboard. If the inevitable did happen, I assure you the lifejackets are accessible within seconds.

I carry Shimano tr200 and 320 Penn reels with 8/10kg rods, running 14kg line and 24kg traces, regularly maintained.
If Eddie was unhappy with the gear, there were plenty of alternative rods available.
The line broke because he ripped the 2 fish out of the water [we run 2 hook ledger rigs] without waiting for a net or gaff, then caught nothing much else for the rest of the day.
