Join the experienced captain Ryan, who's been fishing these waters since he was a teenager. With lots of knowledge and patience, he'll help any guest to become an angler by the end of the trip.
Tropical Sun is a custom 45' Bertram sport fisher redone in 2019, with all the latest modern technology and creature comforts. In spring 2022 installed a new Seakeeper 6 gyro stabilizer. This new technology reduces 70-90% of the boat's roll on the ocean and greatly reduces motion sickness. Fully air-conditioned cabin, full-size refrigerator/freezer, satellite TV, WiFi, new Garmin chart plotter/radar, chirp sounder/fishfinder, 2 Garmin VHFs, Eskimo Dometic ice maker, Spot Zero water purified water, we make our own ice, and much more. Large flybridge seating/ viewing area and a large cockpit with release marine 130 fighting chair. There's enough room for 6 guests to fish in comfort.
Come fish the deep blue calm water for gigantic Blue Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Ono, and other pelagic species. There's a variety of fishing techniques to use and it all depends on what you're after and how challenging you want it to be.
Tackle is ranging from light tackle to heavy 130 lbs tackle, professionally maintained and tournament ready. The equipment is included in the price, as well as your licenses and soft drinks. Feel free to bring some snacks and sun protection.

Family of 6 and we came to Kona for the worst weather in 30 years. Had a trip cancelled on Saturday for weather and this was our last shot. Booked last minute and Capt Ryan called to warn us he wasn’t sure but was hopeful for Tuesday. Weather worked out. Capt Ryan and Mate Cary were very friendly and answered all questions. They kept working to put us on fish and boy did they. My Wife and daughter got their first blue marlin and my son got a spearfish. Then capped it off towards the end of the day with a triple on yellowfin tuna. All around a great day. A+ outfit
We took the 6 hour trip, and we caught 4 tuna! We actually caught two of them at the same time...crazy!! The crew was amazing...two of the teens had never fished before, but they taught them what to do. Boat was beautiful. We all had so much fun! Highly recommend.
We had the best time. We were in Kona to celebrate my daughter’s high school graduation. She was able to reel in an estimated 650lb Marlin! Both of the guys were absolutely awesome and it was a great day!
Wife and daughter were able to catch naps during the trip. Boat was comfortable and smooth (even air-conditioning). Crew mentioned that it was slow day but had several bites. Caught a nice short billed spearfish. It tasted incredible and shared it with several others where we were staying. Recommend considering if you want a great comfortable charter!
Outstanding vessel and crew. The boat has been very well maintained and the mate and captain are highly professional and experienced. I would definitely charter with them again!

In 2004 my family moved to Kona, Hawaii after graduating high school. When I got to Hawaii I worked the deck for many legendary Captains from Kona over the years, eventually working my way to Captain of the Tropical Sun. I got my Captains license at 18 years old, while Sportfishing and commercial fishing in Hawaii. I have traveled and spent time fishing in Mexico, Panama, and Kona. My life passion is having my clients experience this amazing water world we call home!
