Kailua-Kona HI, United States

Kona Blue Sportfishing is based in Kailua-Kona, on the Island of Hawaii. They offer fishing trips on the surrounding Pacific Ocean waters for any angler, no matter the age and expertise. If you are looking for a crew that can go anywhere and do anything – look no further!

Enjoy your trip with Kona Blue Sportfishing aboard the “Kona Blue”, which is a 53-foot wheelchair accessible Hatteras boat, powered by twin 735 Detroit Diesel engines. Originally built in 1971, the vessel was refitted in 2006 and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art navigational electronics: a Raymarine 3D GPS, a Wesmar HD 800 Side Scanning Sonar, a VHF radio, an HD radar, and Depth Sounder. A Mitsubishi gyrostabilizer reduces the boat roll, and an air-conditioning system will keep you cool during the trip. For your comfort, the galley includes satellite TV, a kitchen with a refrigerator, a bedroom, two toilets, and a shower. Fitted with a 130 Class Pompanette fighting chair, a live bait tank, Rupp outriggers, downriggers, centerrgiggers, and Tuna tubes, the boat is ideal for professional fishing.

Kona Blue Sportfishing offers six and eight-hour trips, where they will take you hunting hard-fighting fish, such as Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Swordfish, Shortbill Spearfish, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Black Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Skipjack Tuna, Albacore Tuna, Amberjack… and the list just keeps going!

The crew is very familiar with the best methods that work for the local waters, such as bottom fishing, trolling, jigging, heavy and light tackle, spinning, popping, drift fishing, and handline.

Up to six guests are welcome to join Kona Blue Sportfishing adventure. You will be provided with Penn International reels, custom built rods, tackle, lures, and live bait, as well as bottled water. If you decide to keep the catch, it will be cleaned and filleted for you at the end of the trip.

This trip exceeded our expectations. David and Chris were our expert crew who led us to an epic fishing day. The grand finale was when Albert got to experience a 20 minute fight with a marlin that surfaced a couple of times displaying himself above the water before he finally freed himself of the line which we were happy about because we didn’t want to have to gaffe him just for a picture as all marlin are catch and release only. In the end, we caught so much yellow fin Ahi and a few blue jack tuna that we were able to share a feast with friends and give some to our helpful crew. It was just a fabulous experience and we will never forget it. Mahalo Dave and Chris! You and Blue Kona rock!!!!
