The backwaters of the North Keys truly are a stunning place, not just because of the nature but for the potential catches as well. Your captain and guide for the day is Andrew Atwill. He was born and raised on the Keys and knows the flats and reef like the back of his hand.
He'll take you out on his 24ft pathfinder, the best boat for this environment. It was originally built in 2014 and brand new 2023 Yamaha 300 four stroke . It's got some pace to it too. It can go up to 60 knots so you can dash over to Andrews's favorite fishing grounds in no time at all. It features a raised fishing platform on the bow giving you plenty of space from where you can spy your targets.
There are a great variety of saltwater fish that call the flats and reef of the Keys home. Jack Crevalle, Redfish, Tarpon, Sheepshead, and Mangrove Snapper are all common catches on Andrews's trips. Trolling, bottom fishing, and even spearfishing are the approaches Andrew takes. Unsure of anything? Don't be afraid to ask!
He will provide you with good quality Penn fishing tackle on his trips from which you'll attach the live bait that he will provide for you. With all the great game catches you can pull in, it would be a great shame if you don't know how to clean and fillet them, so he'll sort that for you. Your Florida fishing license is also included in the price for these trips so there's no need to have a concern about that.
He has some water on board so take something sweeter if you wish as well as some snacks if you book a longer trip. Although a lot of the terrain is shaded here it's still best to come prepared for the sun and hot weather. For a great day of unique flat fishing, you need not look further than Local Grown Charters!

While visiting Key Largo, my family wanted to go out and catch some fish so we booked a charter with Captain Andrew. Let me tell you... 10+++++ stars! He had everything ready and took us to some great spots where variety was on point and the fish were definitely on. He was attentive to making sure we were ready to go at all times with bait and line swaps. He prepped all our fish also so all I had to do was cook them when we got home that night. I highly recommend booking with him if you want to have a great fishing day!

We had a great trip with Captain Drew. The boat was perfect. Were a family of 4 and we all caught a bunch of we kept enough snapper for a meal at Lazy Lovster that night. Drew know a couple of sweet spots where the fish were biting. He got live shrimp for bait and ran around the boat baiting all of us and removing the fish as soon as we brought them up. It was amazing. He even got a shark which we tried to reel in but it got away. I highly recommend Drew as Captain. Fantastic trip. Worth the money especially when you catch a bunch of fish. He even found a couple of snorkel spots for us. We did a 4 hour trip.

We are soaking up every bit of the last summer before our nest is empty. Our son is heading off to college in the fall, and we took him and a friend to the Keys for a fishing charter. We caught Snapper, Snook, Trout, Jack Crevalle, and Ethan had a Goliath Grouper on the line -- and it got away! Drew is knowledgeable, helpful, and a gracious host. It was a perfect day.

Un temps magnifique, un capitaine et son bateau bien équipés pour passer un très bon moment. Pas de très grosse prise mais de nombreux poissons de belle taille et d'espèces variées qui ont ravi notre fils de 15 ans durant 4 heures. Le capitaine est très attentif et efficace et malgré la barrière de langue tout c'est très bien passé. Nous le remercions pour la préparation des filets et l'adresse du restaurant qui nous a très bien reçu et cuisiné un festin... Très bonne expérience, merci

Capt Drew took us out and we did some reef fishing…caught some mangrove snapper for dinner and a few undersized muttons…Capt cleaned our catch and we took it to Islamorada Fish Company and they cooked it up for us! it was great!
