Makai Charters offers inshore and offshore fishing trips from the Indian River, Delaware. Join Captain Lawrence Coyle and his crew in the new season of adventures. Their goal is to provide a first-class experience allowing their guests to be as hands-on or hands-off as you'd like. This is the perfect opportunity to learn directly from professionals and advance your fishing skill.
Hop aboard a 2022 Sportsman 282 TE that fits up to 4 guests. She's equipped with top-of-the-line Garmin navigational electronics and powered by twin 300 HP Yamaha outboards. This center console can adjust to any fishing trip you take, be it a slow day inshore or an adrenaline-high offshore quest. With a private toilet, a live bait tank, a cooler, and safety equipment, you've got everything you'll need for the day out. She is equipped with a Sea Keeper stabilizer to make your day on the water more enjoyable.
Inshore trips will take you bottom fishing for Flounder, Croaker, Bluefish, and Seabass, while long offshore adventure takes you after fast, pelagic species, such as Tuna, Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Mako Shark. It's easier if you have some experience for an offshore trip but you can have a successful day even as a complete novice. The crew will assist every step of the way, so pay attention, and steal any trick that you can from them.
Feel free to bring your favorite tackle along if you'd like but Makai will provide state-of-the-art tackle and gear. Your fishing license is also covered, so you only need to bring snacks, drinks, and sunscreen. Kids are welcome as well, so you can easily turn this day into a family bonding adventure.

Regardless of the light rain and choppy water, this skilled crew made an unforgettable experience for us. With their guidance and knowledge, we still had a great time and caught several species of fish! Bill did an excellent job cleaning the fish we kept and we took Captain Larry’s suggestion to have the restaurant at the marina prepare our fresh catches for lunch! Delicious! Highly recommend them if you are in the area. Will be returning to Makai Charters every chance I get. Thank you Captain Larry and Bill!

Inshore Mahi on August 30, 2026 • 2 adultsWe had an amazing outing yesterday with Makai. Captain Larry kept us on fish and safe, and we learned a lot. First Mate Bill was awesome and hustled the whole time, right alongside Captain Larry. Not only did we realize a dream to catch mahi-mahi, we caught black sea bass to top it off. Most importantly, we had a great time and made it home with an amazing haul! We haven’t fished for big tuna yet, so maybe that’s next!

Csptain put us on top of some big knot heads,came home with 23 keepers, threw a BUNCH of smallies back along with 2 flounders, and ling cod. All in all had a GREAT day. Would love to do it again. Definitely recommend the MALAKAI.

4 – Hour Inshore 0 – 15 miles on June 12, 2024 • 3 adults • 1 childThis was my first ever trip out of Delaware and only my 3rd time out altogether. My 7year old son was along as well. Captain Lawrence could not have been more professional. He did an amazing job working with my son, my step-dad, and I. His mate wasn’t able to make our trip but the captains nephew filled in and did an amazing job as well. This man is down to earth and easy to talk with. He’s very knowledgeable and his equipment is top notch. I would most definitely recommend him for a great trip. We hit the fish early and caught a healthy number of flounder and sea bass. Around the end of the trip the fish were slowing down but we already had plenty. Overall an amazing trip! Thanks again Captain Lawrence!!

It was our first time targeting black sea bass on off-shore wrecks. We kept 35 and released even more. Captain Larry put us on fish and Mate Bill kept our hooks baited and patiently untangled our snags.
