El Vaquero Sport Fishing welcomes you to Costa Rica. Come visit Puerto Jiménez, a popular angling destination in Puntarenas Province, and enjoy fishing the bountiful inshore and offshore waters of this beautiful area. You’ll have all the help of a friendly captain whose only goal is to put you on the fish and make sure you have lots of fun on board. Join him aboard and create many delightful moments on the water!

The boat you’ll use for fishing is a 20’ Otros airboat that can take up to 3 guests. The boat uses a 115 HP Yamaha engine as well as modern GPS, fishfinder, and radio technology that will help you stay on the course all the time during your trip. The boat’s also equipped with snorkeling gear, tuna tubes, and a livewell.

The great choice of species you can catch includes many types of Grouper, such as Black and Snowy Grouper, then Mahi Mahi, Bonito, African Pompano, and more. To attract them, you can try out bottom fishing, deep sea fishing, trolling, spinning, jigging, popping, as well as drift fishing. You can choose to keep or release the fish you catch and you’re welcome to bring kids on the boat. What you should keep in mind is that smoking isn’t allowed during the trip.

The captain will provide you with everything you’ll need for the trip. This covers you for all the fishing gear, catch cleaning, national fishing licenses, as well as sandwiches, peanuts, sodas, and water.

As always, we prefer to recognize & recommend quality & local services...and we recommend Gerardo to anyone seeking a personalized guide who cares about their clients and not just the payout. My wife, who has never caught a fish herself, had a blast as well! Gerardo also recommended a Local restaurant to cook some of our catch for us immediately after arriving to the dock. Great Costa Rican Trip!

Gerardo was awesome! Put us on snapper and big eye trevalli immediately. While I really wanted to get a rooster, he put us on at least three throughout the day but the fishing gods were against us as they all came off the hook. Certainly not his fault, fully on the guy behind the reel. I would highly recommend him over the higher priced 'resorts'. Keep it local, you won't be disappointed…

Awesome day fishing

3/4 Day Trip – Inshore on January 1, 2024 • 3 adults

My Dad, brother, and I went out with Gerardo on New Year's day and we couldn't have had a better time. He knew exactly where to go to catch live bait quickly, and once we caught enough bait, we found plenty of fish to feed our group of 7 for the rest of our trip (and released plenty as well). We caught red snapper, cubera snapper, African Pompano, big eye trevally, and even had a Rooster on but it got away. Overall, we had an amazing day on the water with El Vaquero and would strongly recommend booking a trip with him. Thanks again Gerardo!

3/4 Day Trip – Inshore on April 26, 2024 • 2 adults

We caught a ton of fish of various species using several different techniques: Roosters on poppers, groupers and pacific bonita on fast jigs in 300' of water, snapper with slow pitch jigs. Capt knows how to put you on fish and is a great all-around guy. Somehow he even got my wife (who doesn't ever fish) to land a Rooster on drifted live bait. We had a blast!

Gerardo is an excellent fishing guide! After the first day my wife and I were fortunately able to schedule a second day with him. We caught two large Roosters, 4 nice Pompano, a number of Snapper and a few other species. Lots of great photographs and fun. Gerardo is very professional, knows where the fish are and how to catch them. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great fishing experience.
