Old School Fishing Charters 

I first got in touch with Captain Michael about two months before this trip. In early May, I took a week off and drove 10 hours to North Carolina to target Sheepshead. However, I wasn't having any luck. Even at the local bait shops, no one was hearing about Sheepshead being caught—only a few Bluefish here and there. I didn’t want my long-awaited vacation to end without catching anything, so even though I hadn't originally planned on hiring a charter, I decided to reach out to a few captains. While some didn't even bother to reply, Michael responded right away. More importantly, he was incredibly honest and told me that even the boats weren't catching much at that time. Since I knew I would be returning to the area for work in July, I told him I’d love to book a trip then if the timing worked out. Once I coordinated the schedule with my friends for July, we finally made the trip happen. Leading up to the day, I had so many questions, but Michael always replied instantly and gave us complete peace of mind. Since Sheepshead can be very tricky to catch, I asked if we could switch targets if things got tough. He happily agreed and took us to several great spots throughout the day. For the big catches, one of my friends landed a 25-inch Black Drum, and Michael himself caught a 24-inch one, which he generously let us keep and take home! We also caught plenty of smaller fish and had a blast. I will absolutely book with Michael again next time. Thank you so much for an unforgettable trip!

We are first timers visiting OBX, I was looking to book a fishing trip to gift my boyfriend for his birthday. After searching so many pages I found Old School Charters and Captain Mikes video. From the time of booking Mike was very responsive and helpful even contacted me the day before because the day we were set to go was going to be windy for the trip. We chose another day and set out on our trip. Captain Mike was very friendly,. knowledgeable and accommodating. We caught a few fish before an unfortunate downpour arrived and had to cut our trip short. Despite the weather changes we had a blast. Definitely recommend and hope to return for another trip in the future

We had a great time and caught a bunch of fish. Speckled Trout/ Reds/ and blues. Captain was great and really enjoyed the time we spent out on the water.

While on vacation in Outer Banks, we decided we wanted to do a fishing trip. Captain Mike answered me promptly about the fishing for the week and we were able to book a trip for Thursday. He sent all the information we needed before hand and was ready for our trip at 7am. The weather called for wind, but it was still manageable and Captain Mike was very considerate to not get us soaking wet. Our trip started slow but he made sure to get us on some fish! We were able to catch some gorgeous Sea Trout and a Weakfish. Mike is super knowledgeable about the area and truly cares about the fisheries in OBX. As someone who works in fisheries and with charters before, I would absolutely recommend Old School Fishing Charters for a fantastic charter fishing experience. If you are looking for a great inshore fishing experience in the Outer Banks, look no further! My girlfriend and I went out fishing with Captain Mike, and we had an awesome day! It was cold and the fishing was tough, but that didn’t stop Captain Mike from working tirelessly to get us on fish. He is very personable and very clearly wants his clients to feel welcomed and have a pleasant experience while out on his charters. If you are looking to get your kids into fishing, this is definitely the charter for you! Captain Mike has many great stories from his days as a teacher in the classroom, so it was really cool getting to experience his teaching out on the water. As a fellow teacher, I could not recommend Old School Fishing Charters enough!

We of course chose the deathly of hot days to go which did impact our catches, but Mike kept us moving around and trying different techniques. Took us all the way down to the last hour of our last day, but my son finally pulled in a 27” drum! We caught some bass and Mike caught a blue fish otherwise. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Being a retired teacher, definitely good with kids.

Fishing with Captain Mike on an overcast day, caught so some bait fish and headed out to the old bridge for trout fishing. I caught a Citation sheepshead, it was huge fish. The fight was a LOT OF FUN, more than I expected. Everyone was excited, huge fish. Finished the day off with some trout. GREAT TIME, going back in October.
