Do you want to create memories for life? Come out to Ucluelet and join Capt. Brandon 'Minnesota' Wiita on the mighty Pacific ocean. Offering one of the most affordable ocean fishing charters on all of Vancouver Island. Charged by the hour, so you can make your own plans on your own time and Brandon will do everything in his power to accommodate those wants and needs.

Since moving to Ucluelet, Captain Brandon has spent every allowed minute out on the ocean targeting Salmon (Chinook and Coho) inshore. No matter the time of year, he has found them when others can't or when others have to go long distances. Minnesota Charters has their secret spots to fill those tubs. If the weather allows, though, we can and will cruise offshore, if wanting, to target Halibut and Lingcod.

If doing a full day, we can target Prawns, too. It is one of the only charters in Ucluelet that offers Prawning. Coming in from fishing (at the harbor), there are Crab traps set to check as well in hopes of finding those big male Dungeness Crabs.

Fully licensed and insured by Transport Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard, as safety is always on the captain's mind. Ucluelet and its surrounding waters can be unpredictable at times, but the captain always has an eye on the weather and water to ensure everyone's safety, including safety electronics, full radar, GPS, VHF radio and an EPIRB

Fishing out of a beautiful Grady White 24 explorer with unmatched, legendary quality. Whether we are battling offshore swells or cruising to a secluded bay, Grady-White defines the pinnacle of fishing performance and luxurious comfort, offering a huge 'dance floor' and super comfy seating. Repowered with brand new Suzuki outboards

The captain understands that these days, everything can be expensive, but fishing shouldn't be one of them, so he offers a discounted rate to accommodate a variety of people, while still offering top of the line equipment and a seaworthy vessel to help deliver the best experience

Minnesota knows fishing!
6 Hour Trip on June 13, 20262 adults2 children

Cpt Brandon was fantastic. Not only did we catch fish- and all different kinds- he catered to the attention of everyone on the boat. My oldest son was able to catch 2 new species and land his own Salmon. My youngest was overjoyed to catch multiple rockfish and get a close look at the Sea Lions. We caught Halibut, Ling Cod, he even let the boys bring up one of his crab pods. Having fished his whole life, Brandon was generous with his experience and knowledge. With gratitude, we reflect on a special experience watching 'Buddy' -a bald eagle snipe a salmon head mid air. The whole trip was fantastic- five stars

Reported catch:
Chinook Salmon
Halibut

Thanks for coming out and supporting my small business, Brad. Your boys were great! It's always fun for me to see their faces light up from catching monster fish. Hope to see you all again sometimes

Fall/Winter/Early Spring Fishing on February 25, 20262 adults

Went fishing during the Herring spawn. 15 minutes bites in we saw a whale breaching and showing us her tail. Caught 4 chinook. Then just when you think it couldn't get any better, about 30 bald eagles started attacking a herring bait ball driven to the surface by diving birds. Take that National Geographic!! Captain Brandon knows his stuff! Cool bits of information about the people who have lived here forever, the politics of the fisheries, the animals and of course the fish and how to catch them. Brandon is worth more than he's charging. Can't wait to come back.

Incredible experience
Fall/Winter/Early Spring Fishing on March 22, 20262 adults

My 18 year-old grandson wanted to fish in his grandmother so my husband and I gifted him this trip for Christmas. It was the first time he had saltwater fish, Captain Brandon went out of his way to make this trip unforgettable. My grandson landed three salmon, and one Pacific cod, the memories we made during this trip will never be forgotten. Our end of day Bonus was-the spot prawns the captain gifted us to take home thank you very much. Everything you did was truly appreciated.

5 Hour Trip on August 5, 20252 adults

My son and I booked with Minnesota Charters for a day trip off the coast of Ucluelet. The trip exceeded our expectations. The trip was one of the most affordable on the booking site but we couldn't have had a better experience no matter what we paid. We both limited out on Chinook and Rockfish, saw some gorgeous coastal waterways, wildlfe and landscapes and enjoyed every minute of time on the water with Captain Brandon. We have been on many charter fishing trips in varying locations but had the best experience we have ever had fishing with Brandon. Highly highly recommend booking with Minnesota Charters.

Wonderful experience!
5 Hour Trip on July 21, 20262 adults2 children

My kids (10 and 12) had a wonderful time with Captain Brandon! He got them engaged by jigging squid and we ended up pulling in a 38” king salmon! We also ended up with a half dozen rockfish. captin was flexible, patient, and educational. Would love to fish with him again!

Angler's Choice

The Angler's Choice Award is given to listings that consistently deliver a high-quality service and earn great reviews from customers.

I wouldn't love fishing as much as I do if it weren't for my grandpa. He took me out when I was 5 years old, and I've been hooked ever since. Born and raised in Minnesota, I had no idea taking people fishing for a living was a thing. Then, I moved to Ucluelet in 2017, and my world was open to that very possibility. They say, 'Do what you love, and you won't work a day in your life,' that saying is absolutely accurate, and it's an honor to be able to call my passion a career!
