Captain Momi and deck hand Brad were great and the boat was perfect for our group of 8 adults and 2 kids. Unfortunately the communication between FishingBooker and Bite Me and Ocean Encounters was terrible. I ended up calling Ocean Encounters directly to get the info I wanted. FishingBooker listing said that fishing licenses were included which is one of the reasons I booked with them. That was another $160+. When I questioned them they said thank you and that they would change the listing when they should have credited us. Next time I will go straight to Ocean Encounters or Bite Me to make a reservation. I probably would save %10-20 and not deal with the frustration.

Hooked a marlin that broke our line but also saw spinners, endangered birds, captain got an octopus for the kids to see up close during snorkel time. Overall wonderful family experience!

We had an absolutely wonderful day fishing and snorkeling with Captain Momi and first mate JJ. We caught two large fish which was great but Momi and JJ also made sure our two small children had a nice time as well. While snorkeling, they both free dove and scooped up interesting creatures from the ocean floor for our kids to explore. Momi was able to find an octopus which they got to touch and play with, which was probably the highlight for them of our entire trip. The boat was very comfortable and good quality fishing and snorkeling gear.
We went out on a charter in Kona, Hawaii on December 29, 2025, with Captain Momi (M-O-M-I) and deckhand Brad. Our trip was scheduled to depart at 6:30 a.m. Around 6:00 a.m., we received a message stating the charter would be delayed by about an hour due to fueling issues and long fuel lines. However, we had arrived early and were already at the dock. We observed the boat and could clearly see the deckhand preparing for the day’s charter, not waiting in a fuel line as explained. Captain Momi arrived approximately an hour late, and we departed after the delay. She stated we would fish later in the day to make up for the lost time. Unfortunately, fishing later in the day—especially trolling top-water lures—is not very productive due to fish moving deeper as waters warm. As expected, fishing conditions were not ideal. While we did manage to catch one mahi-mahi, which was appreciated, the delay clearly impacted the overall experience. When we returned to the dock, Captain Momi strongly recommended her boyfriend’s restaurant for a “hook and cook,” stating it was the only restaurant on the island that would accept and prepare freshly caught fish. After later researching on our own, we found this was not accurate. During the fish cleaning process, I was with my children looking at fish and sea turtles in the water. Captain Momi gave my wife only half of the mahi-mahi and stated that would be enough for us. She kept the other half of the fish, which we later assumed was for use at her boyfriend’s restaurant as part of their catch-of-the-day menu. I was not made aware of this until afterward. We took the fish we were given to the recommended restaurant, which was a Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was poor, the amount of fish we received back was noticeably less than what we brought in, and the food quality was disappointing overall. I do want to note that Brad, the deckhand, was excellent. He worked hard throughout the trip, consistently changed lures, and made repeated efforts to get fish on the line for us. That said, between the captain arriving late, paying full price for a shortened and less productive trip, and only receiving half of the fish we caught, the overall experience was very disappointing. Based on this experience, I would rate this charter 2 out of 5 stars and would not recommend it.

Aloha, To address some of the issue's stated: I do see that the trip went out later than expected and we do apologize for that. At the heart of our busiest time which is the Christmas holiday season leading up to New Years, the fuel dock can get hectic or there may have been a fuel pump down. We apologize that you left later than expected but that does not affect the fishing as we do fish for pelagic fish throughout the day until sunset and they made up for the time so you received the full four hour charter. As far as the Captains recommendation for a restaurant, Poncho & Leftys located on Alli Dr is the only walk in restaurant that "may" accept customers bringing in their own catch to cook. The only other recommendation I have is if a customer is staying at a resort with facilities on location, is to ask the concierge of the hotel if there is a chef that is willing to prepare the catch. Other than that, there are local public beach areas with BBQ's for people to use. You guys caught a smaller Mahi Mahi and after speaking with the crew member, he in fact gave you the whole fish after being filleted. A Mahi Mahi has a lot of bloodline that has to be cut out of it when filleting and on a smaller Mahi, it will not yield a lot of meat. You cannot sell a cut fish to a restaurant. They buy the whole fish only to assure freshness and so that their chefs can cut it how they would like. Sending our Aloha.
Captain Moni with Taylor and Justice were awesome! Caught a Ono and Tuna!!!

We are so glad you guys had a great time!! We put some video up of Captain Momi cutting your fish on our social media. We hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation!! -Aloha, Valerie
