Flatout Sportfishing

5.0/5 (12 reviews)
8505 Greig Street, Sodus Point, NY 14555, United States

Flatout is conveniently docked at Captain Jack’s Restaurant. You’ll be welcomed by Captain Darrin LaChance, who has been fishing Lake Ontario for over 25 years. We’re located right in the beautiful village of Sodus Point, close to the open waters of the lake, and are able to get to prime fishing grounds in no time!

You’ll be fishing aboard "Flatout," a beautiful 32’ Luhrs with a wide 13’ beam and room for 6 guests. It’s very comfortable with plenty of seating under a large hardtop for keeping out of sun and weather. Or, be right in the action of whoever is up to fight a Lake Ontario trophy fish. There’s room for everybody and a private bathroom for your convenience.

Whether you are an expert or beginner, young or old, Flatout provides you with all the best rods, reels, and tackle and is fully equipped with radar, sonar, and GPS navigation gear. You’ll find everything you need to have an epic day fishing on Lake Ontario. Your catch is iced during the day, and after all the pictures are taken, it is filleted and packaged in Ziplocs to enjoy back home.

April into May is mostly trolling Brown Trout, Coho, and Lake Trout with an occasional Chinook. In May and June, start heading a little deeper hunting for Steelhead, Coho, and Chinook Salmon. In the summer months, the main target is Chinook Salmon, but you can also catch Coho Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout, and Lake Trout.

Bring a cooler to transport your fish home, a fishing license for everyone over 16, a small cooler with snacks/drinks, plus a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Light alcohol is allowed, such as beer, in cans only, and dress according to the weather (the capt. will brief you a few days prior to your charter). Please message Capt. Darrin with any questions or concerns you may have, including lodging for the trip.

Capt. Darrin and the staff look forward to having you aboard Flatout Sportfishing!

Did a 6 hour family trip with Capt. Darrin and it was a great experience. The boat is big, comfortable, clean and well maintained. We were able to get on the fish pretty fast and caught 10+ large lake trout. My 4.5 year old son helped reel in a few of them and he had a blast on the boat. These guys know the fishery really well and it's obvious they bring a lot of experience to the table. I'll definitely try to make a trip out again in the future!

3/4 Day Trip (PM) on June 27, 2023

Been deep sea fishing numerous times growing up on Long Island. Have done so in the Florida Keys, off Grand Cayman Islands and in Aruba. THIS WAS THE MOST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD ON A FISHING CHARTER EVER! Great Captain…extremely nice guy who knows Lake Ontario like the back of his hand. Very laid back, funny and fun. Oh, and by the way, we came home with 32.4lbs.Of beautiful king salmon filets. Essentially, it was cheaper to go out with Captain Darrin, have a fantastic six hours of fishing and a beautiful day on Lake Ontario than it would have been to buy the fish at Wegmans supermarket . We had such a great experience that we are setting up another trip next month. And probably again a month later! I’m fair but tough to please and today’s experience was everything me and my family hoped for and more. This is a can’t miss opportunity! We’d have had a good time even if we hadn’t done so well fishing! 5 stars isn’t enough!

Capt. Lachance met us as we pulled up to his mooring, a friendly outgoing person, with a positive outlook on the day! As the trip started the Captain was very receptive, answering all questions with respect and dignity, as I'm sure some must have seemed ridiculous to a seasoned Fisherman! As we left Sodus Bay, the Captains experience began to show as he prepared us for what to expect. It wasn’t long before the well equipped boats sonar began marking fish! This is where the Captains experience really began to show, as he chose lure patterns and depths to get us on the fish! Needless to say the first hookup was quick in coming, as we were fighting fish within the first 1/2 hr. of wetting lines. With the Captains coaching and encouragement some very "green" fishermen were soon landing the biggest catches of their lives! Overall the experience was one that I highly recommend! Thank you Captain LaChance for a very memorable and pleasant experience!

We did an afternoon/early evening fishing trip out of Sodus Point and ended up filling the cooler with (1) Brown Trout, (1) Rainbow Trout and (4) King Salmons. (2) out of the (4) King Salmon were in the 20 pound class requiring more than just a few minutes to land. Highly recommend Captain Darrin and his Boat Flatout.

Put together a last minute salmon trip with 3 other guys. We could NOT have found a better charter. Also, the cabin they had across the street from the dock was fantastic! Fun day and put away a 25lb. King Salmon. If you run out of Sodus Point, Captain Darrin is the charter captain. The boat is top shelf, too

Flatout Sportfishing is owned and operated by Captain Darrin LaChance. He's been fishing his whole life. Spending his summers in Sodus Point allowed him to chase Trout and Salmon out of Sodus Bay since he was a little boy. For Captain Darrin, countless hours have been enjoyed fishing Lake Ontario for world-class King Salmon and Trout. His mission is to always go above and beyond to put fish on the deck!
