A'u Struck Sportfishing
Book your next trip with A'u Struck Sportfishing and find out what you're missing in Kailua-Kona. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Dave knows them forwards and back.
These waters are known for Blue Marlin, Shortbill Spearfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Bigeye Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, and more – with any luck, it won't take long to hook into some. On these trips, you can expect to troll using light or heavy tackle.
Depending on the catch, you will share the spoils of your adventure with the crew. Some fish are catch-and-release so they have a chance to fight again. The crew will be happy to fillet and bag some of the catch for you (depending on the size and species)
Capt. Dave runs a 30' Precision offshore sport fishing vessel with space for 3 passengers. It has outriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Your captain will provide rods and reels, along with lures. Live bait may available, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
The state of Hawaii is now requiring a fishing license, so you may want to visit the Hawaii State website. Have in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. Your captain will help you follow regulations while you fish. It's recommended to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunblock (non-spray). Cold bottled water will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be some light snacks provided on board.
Children 10 years and older are welcome.
How often would you rather be fishing? Go on and turn that daydream into a reality, with A'u Struck Sportfishing!

We had the greatest time! Dave was awesome and so helpful. We were 4.5 hours into the trip and no fish, but then my husband caught a shortbill spear fish, and a short time later my son caught one! Captain Dave was very helpful through it all. We came home with enough fish to get us through the last two nights here on Hawaii. Loved the snacks and water, nice restroom on board too. We would definitely recommend!
We had the best day! The captain was chill 😎 and helped us through the entire experience. First time deep sea fishing and now we have a new found love! We caught 5 tuna (17-25lbs) and hooked 7. We didn't catch the elusive blue marlin but we did see another crew catch one in the distance so we had the chance to marvel in its magnificence. You can tell that Captain Dave loves what he does. He experiences the same joy as his customers when we celebrate each catch. Couldn't recommend him enough. 10/10
Dave is a great guy, he has that down to earth, dry sense of humor that all great captains have. when the fish is on, dave is all business. he jumps into quarterback mode and uses the boat to help you get that fish in; it worked out great for us as we pulled in a 140 lb blue marlin within 20 minutes of the day starting.
We had a great time with Captain Dave on a beautiful morning! Beautiful views of the island, nice conversation, and a great catch as well. My husband was excited to reel in a good size spearfish! Captain Dave was very gracious when one of us didn't handle the sea so well. My husband very much enjoyed Dave's conversation and insights to the island while cleaning the catch and providing us with a generous portion to prepare back at our rental. Thanks Captain Dave!

The Captain was very nice and accomedating he went put of his way to make sure we caught fish. we caught sailfish Marlin and skipjack.
