OBK Shared Trip - catch guarantee!
Ocean Blue Kona offers premier inshore and bottom fishing charters in the beautiful waters of Kona, captained by either experienced Captain Kevin or Captain Kihe.
Guests can look forward to targeting species such as Taʻape (Bluestripe Snapper), Papio, Uku (Gray Snapper), Moano Kea (Yellowfin Goatfish), Weke Nono, Kumu (Whitesaddle Goatfish), Jacks, Snappers, and Wrasses. Fishing is conducted using top-of-the-line Penn Battle 3 spinning rod and reel combos with 50-pound braided Spectra line and 30-pound fluorocarbon leaders, each rigged with two size 14 BKN hooks and an 8 oz. weight.
Our 32’ center console comfortably accommodates up to 4 passengers and is fully equipped with the necessary amenities, including a toilet. The boat is child-friendly, with appropriately sized life vests available to ensure the safety of guests of all ages. Children under five must share a fishing rod with an adult.
We provide snacks and drinks to help keep you energized throughout your adventure. Feel free to bring any additional snacks and drinks you would like, and we can keep them on ice for you. Adult beverages are also welcome.
All nonresident anglers aged 15 and older are required to purchase a Nonresident Recreational Marine Fishing License online before the trip. All catchable and edible fish may be kept. We will scale, gut, or fillet your catch so it is ready to cook. We’re also happy to share some of our favorite recipes if you’d like to prepare your catch yourself.
If you don’t have access to a kitchen, you can take your fish to Holualoa Garden & Kitchen, located in the quaint town of Holualoa, about 15 minutes from Kona. If you’re staying in Kona town, you can take your catch to Umekes, where they can cook your fish for you. Reservations are required at both locations.

Booked a trip with Captain Kihe and he was amazing. Super cool and laid back. Everyone on the boat caught fish and was able to bring some back to cook for dinner. The trip ended with me catching a trophy GT (Trevally) overall we were super excited and very pleased with the trip. We will definitely book again in the future!

Captain called the night before and asked if we could be early to the dock so we could go and catch live bait. We did and caught two bigger trevallys because of it. We also caught some good eating fish to bring a home.

Our captains are passionate about sharing their love for light-tackle bottom fishing. They believe this style of fishing is one of the best ways to catch some of the finest-eating fish in Hawaii. Captain Kevin has been bottom fishing for 10 years and enjoys teaching young kids how to fish. On his days off, you’ll find him fishing for his family and neighbors. He loves to cook and enjoys sharing his recipes with everyone who comes aboard. Captain Kihe was born and raised in Kona and has been fishing in the area since he was a young kid. He has gathered knowledge passed down through 10 generations and loves sharing his passion for Hawaiian culture, including the language, stories of the past, and, of course, the beauty of the islands and the surrounding Moana (ocean).
