We welcome you aboard a 33' Offshore sport fishing boat that can carry up to 5 passengers. It comes equipped with all the necessary fishing technology including outriggers, a fighting chair, and more. Plus, inside you'll find a small sitting area with table and a clean bathroom with sink and toilet. Your captain will provide rods and reels for you, along with lures.

Kona has the unique distinction of being one of the few places in the world that has a caught over a 1,000 lbs. blue marlin in each month of the year, meaning you have the opportunity to land a massive trophy fish.

Blue Marlin, ono (Wahoo), Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Striped Marlin, Short bill Spearfish, and more are in the cards if you come at the right time of year.

All experience levels are welcome as we go through a complete safety briefing and tutorial regarding how the fish will bite, and how to properly use a fighting chair. Families are always welcome, and we love sharing fishing experience's with children. For some young anglers it can be a long day on a boat, so parents are encouraged to keep that in mind or please call us with any questions.

A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates often work for tips and it's customary to offer them a 20% tip. You can't go wrong when you bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen (non-spray). Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor and glass bottles.

An Unforgettable Marlin Charter with Reel Escapes Hawaii

5 Hour Fishing Escape on December 31, 2025 • 2 adults

We booked a 4-hour fishing trip with Reel Escapes Hawaii in Kailua-Kona and specifically asked ahead of time to target marlin, as it was a lifelong dream for both my son and me. The captain acknowledged this request in advance, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear how seriously he took it. The captain was extremely well prepared and thoughtful in his approach. He has a fleet of boats and intentionally selected the one that produced the least noise on the water to improve our chances. He checked in with other charters to find where Marlin had been most active, referenced his own detailed fishing log to choose the most successful lure, and rigged our lines accordingly. He even considered the moon phase to anticipate when fish were most likely to strike and actively searched for birds, explaining how they often work with game fish to trap baitfish. After about an hour of trolling, we hooked a marlin, but unfortunately, the hook didn’t set and came loose. Instead of moving on, the captain circled back and continued working the area. About an hour later, we hooked another marlin—and this time my son successfully brought it in. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment for us. Even as our four hours were nearly up, the captain and deckhand kept trying to hook another fish. Their commitment, determination, and genuine desire to give us an unforgettable experience really stood out. This charter exceeded our expectations in every way, and I highly recommend Reel Escapes Hawaii to anyone looking for a professional, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated fishing experience in Kona.

Excellent Charter!

5 Hour Fishing Escape on September 25, 2025 • 2 adults

Had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Brent and TJ, and it was a fantastic trip! Captain Brent put us right on a school of fish and the lines started screaming. Ended up catching 7 Skipjack! TJ was extremely helpful in giving us tips for reeling and made sure we were aware of all safety procedures before pulling in the fish. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew to fish with! When we come back to Hawaii, we will absolutely book with Reel Escapes again and hopefully Captain Brent and TJ!

No trophy fish, but still a great trip

5 Hour Fishing Escape on September 21, 2025 • 2 adults • 1 child

Captain Brent was very transparent that the fishing was remarkably slow before we left. It was. We fished for 4 hrs and didn't catch a Marlin. Only one boat out that day caught one. However, for the last hour he let my son fish the reef, where he caught a dozen or so small fish, which made it all worth the trip. My son also had trouble acclimating to the ocean (first time out) and the first mate Logan made his so comfortable that he was running all over the boat by the end. Solid crew. I'd book with them again.

Amazing Morning Charter with Cpt. Brent and Crew Logan

5 Hour Fishing Escape on November 20, 2025

Great day on the water with Reel Escapes!!! Captain Brent is super knowledgeable and ensures that the trips goes smoothly as possible. Deckhand Logan was informative in making sure I was prepared to be in the fighting chair for a when a fish bit! I was lucky enough to hook up into my first blue marlin all thanks to them! Fishing with guys that know the waters and share the excitement of catching fish makes the experience a 10/10. Could not recommend Reel Escapes enough!!!!

Highlight of our trip to Kona!

5 Hour Fishing Escape on July 4, 2025 • 2 adults • 2 children

Booking with Brent and TJ was a home run for our family, and was the best part of our visit to Kona. We had a 5-hour fishing trip for our family of 4 who are not fisherman (including a 13 year old and 11 year old). The boat was plenty big for our family, and Brent and TJ quickly made our family feel welcome and taught us all the basics. We caught 3 fish, including a marlin, barracuda, and short billed spear fish. We also saw a pod of pilot whales. In between catching fish, Brent and TJ were easy to talk to and share the big island with us. Would highly recommend these gentleman for your trip! -Ryan and Jenna
