Vineyard Boat Charters with Capt. John Hobby
Vineyard Boat Charters is a bottom fishing charter that focuses on a family fishing experience that no other charter on the island does. I will take you on a short run out of the Tashmoo Harbor and down the north shore of the Vineyard to some of my favorite bottom fishing spots. We will drift and bottom fish as we float across good structure below that is home to Black Sea Bass, Scup, Fluke, Black Fish, Dog Fish, Sea Robbins, and more.
My goal is to show you a great time, educate you in the beauty and history of the Vineyard Sound and the fish that call it home. I love to see kids with big smiles on their faces when they see what they reel in. This is really about family having a nice time, getting a chance to fish, and just a great part of their vacation. Great opportunity for photos and memories.
I normally do morning trips, but I can do afternoon or sunset if those times are better. Parents sometimes like the sunsets, good for that nice family photo. Two hours is really all you need. There is a lot of action in the two hours, and it seems everyone gets their fill in that time period.
My base price is for 4 anglers, two hours. I am USCG licensed up to 6 anglers at an additional cost per added angler. Extra fishing time is possible at an additional hourly rate.
I have all the safety gear you need but if you wish to bring yours, you are welcome as long as it meets USCG regulations.
My boat has forward V berth with two bunks, a toilet (head) and running water for washing hands. There is seating to accommodate up to 6 anglers.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, a hat, sunblock (non-spray), and water. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
Gratuities are greatly appreciated. As both captain and first mate, I handle every aspect of your trip. While not required, guests usually leave 15-20%.
Now time to get out on the water and have some fun!

Captain John was awesome. Lots of communication pre-departure around changing weather. Ended up able to go and our kids (10, 8, and 5) were hooked up to fish all morning. Two hours was the perfect length of time to get out and catch some fish for this age. John kept the rods going, helped as much or as little as needed for each age, and was friendly and knoweldgeable about the area. Hope to fish with him again! Brought a ton of fish on board for lots of smiles and great photo ops!

Matt. So glad you guys had fun. That is what is it all about for sure. You were a great family and hope to see you all again. Tell Little John good job on the shark. And your daughters know how to fish, which ia great. Thanks again. Capt John
We are more than thrilled with our experience with Captain John Hobby and Vineyard Boat Charters! From start to finish, the entire trip was absolutely incredible. Captain John was fantastic—he is highly experienced, gave us a ton of great information about the local waters, and kept us feeling safe and secure the entire time. On top of that, he was incredibly encouraging throughout the trip, which made the experience even better for everyone on board. We had so much fun and even caught a fish large enough to keep! We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to enjoy the seas, get some fishing in, and have fun with each other and the Captain. We will definitely make this a recurring experience next time we are on the Vineyard!

I can’t recommend Captain John enough! He was incredibly patient and helpful, making sure everyone had a great time from start to finish. His communication before the trip was excellent and he made sure the entire experience was easy and stress-free. He is experienced and knows where to find the fish - we caught several black sea bass and the highlight was my son catching a cape shark! He took time to help everyone aboard, answered all our questions, and made sure my son and niece had an unforgettable experience. We had an awesome day on the water and I would absolutely book with Captain John again!

Man Justin. Thank you so much for the kind words. Fishing is a combined effort and i think that day we all put our best into getting some. Thanks again for the charter and please call next year. Glad you guys had fun, thats all that matters. Capt John
Can’t say enough great things about fishing with Capt. John. My 13yo son loves fishing and John was terrific with him, let my son weigh in on places to fish from and they had a great banter and rapport the entire fishing trip. John’s boat was very comfortable and it was a lovely morning and will be a new addition to our future MV lists of things to do.

Thank yoy very much for the charter and the giod company this am in the fog. It was a pleasure to fish with your son, he knows what he is doing for sure! Hope you guys have a great rest of vaca and safe trip home. Thanks so much again Cartherine. Capt John
We booked a trip for our family of 5 and would highly recommend John. It was the perfect day to be on the water and John was super helpful and great with our kids (17,15&9) Everyone was able to reel in multiple fish and even one big enough to keep. John took care of everything and we were able to just enjoy our time together fishing.

Nick, thank you so much for the charter and for a good time with you guys fishing. Im glad you guys enjoyed it. Hope to see you next year. Thanks again. Capt John
I have been fishing the north shore of Martha's Vineyard since I was maybe 8. My dad fished the same waters for years. We fish for black Sea Bass, Fluke, Scup and anytning else that comes along. I grew up fishing lobster gear and still do to this day. One thing about fishing, you never know how the day will end! Always fun!
