Great trip out on a late ship with great amenities.  My son’s first time on the open water and he had a blast.  Pretty calm day so that definitely helped.  We caught about 40 fish with 9 keeper snappers.

I’ve been on a few head boats before and this one was below average I would say. The rods and reels were in very poor condition. The one I started out with I had trouble reeling up with no fish. While I am by no means a bodybuilder, I’m a reasonably healthy 26 yeah old guy. I traded poles with my dad and I was able to reel up his rod with a fish on it before he was even halfway. The crew were fairly helpful except for when they were doing fishing themselves. I waited a large amount of time for them to come around and tell me if a fish was a keeper or not (I deposed a few to speed this up). Several times they hooked a larger fish like a cobia and completely abandoned any pretense of helping the paying customers. We also ran out of bait several times and had to wait on them to cut more. Some of the deck hands were very helpful, but they can’t do the job for all the ones who weren’t. All in all for the $60 it was definitely worth the money, but I would highly recommend bringing your own rod!

The rod and reels do go through a lot of abuse and we are replacing them on a daily basis. We do have a lot of spares down below if you ask the mate for another one he will get you one if you’re having a problem with your rod and reel. The guys did see a large Cobia that day. We are definitely going to try to catch a Cobia if we see one it is a rare occurrence. The majority of our customers enjoy the excitement. Obviously we cannot divide one fish among 60 people so the fairest way we know how to do it is we clean it last and divide it between the last few people who have waited the longest to get their fish clean. That is the fairest way that we know how to do it
