Hookup with 'A Live One' for a memorable Hilton Head fishing experience! Owner/Capt Blair Willis began guiding outdoor adventures in HHI in 1996, and running his own boat charters by 2006. He is not only a fishing guide but an engaging host with a wide knowledge of the local waterways and nature.
'I treat every trip as if it were an outing with my own family.' — Capt. Blair
A Live One is a Freeman Boatworks custom 29' center console. Freshly re-powered for 2025 with Yamaha 300 twin motors, and a full electronics console refresh, it has everything you need for a productive day on the water. It's the only Freeman fishing charter on HHI, a high performance catamaran hull with an unmatched ride. The wide layout of this boat is more akin to a 34' monohull in terms of space, and unquestionably more stable and smoother riding than boats in and above its class. Get there fast and comfortably, with more time to fish!
Backcountry/Inshore trips on A Live One are great for kids and very family-friendly! Child-sized life vests are provided, but feel free to bring your own if preferred. Coastal/Reef trips are age 13+ recommended, and Offshore Full Days are best for 16+. 6 Max Guests for most trips (4 for Offshore Full Days).
Inshore trips are catch-and-release fishing. Choose coastal/reef or offshore options if you're looking to bring home a meal. Contact us if ANY questions. Results greatly vary by season and trip type, and we want to make sure to match you with the best trip for your crew!
All fishing tackle provided. Live bait is often targeted by cast net to start the day, or fresh cut bait as available. Fully licensed charter boat, so no additional personal license is needed. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol ok in moderation; no hard liquor, no glass bottles, and no *wheeled* coolers.

We had a fantastic trip. First and foremost, the captain cared about our comfort. The day we were supposed to fish the weather was cold and extremely windy. The captain provided us with an alternative day so we could have a better experience. When we did start our trip, my 83 year old Dad shared that he was cold and the captain whipped out a spare coat. The captain was great with two rambunctious and excited boys (8 and 10). He provided them age appropriate task and knew how to keep them busy even in the down time. The best were his one liners about how long it takes to catch the shark! I also want to note that the captain was great at handling our party that had multiple generations. He showed everyone how to get on the boat properly whether they were old or young and had great rules regarding safety. I would highly recommend A Live One to all looking for a comfortable and fun time.
Matthew, I can’t thank you enough, both for writing such a detailed report of your experience and for being such a blast to have on board. Looking forward to next time!
Good day on the water. Everyone very friendly. Scheduled for the afternoon but got a call offering next morning to avoid heavy winds. Good call, the weather was perfect. Note, Captain Blaire was willing to go as scheduled, but felt lower winds would result in a much more enjoyable trip. We have little experience fishing but he made us feel right at home. In just 3 hours he caught the bait and we landed 5 sharks between 2-4.5 feet. Mixture of black tip and fine tooth including a 30 minute fight for one fine tooth who had no intentions of giving in. Boat and equipment were in good order. Gave us a good safety brief before we left and even included a little HHI history lesson.
Ken, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about the trip. Really enjoyed having you all aboard this morning!

We were visiting from Illinois, and Blair took us out for 3hrs. Blair was a great captain from the start engaging our family showing us wildlife along the trip. My 12 year old son had the opportunity of catching 2 sharks, hold a squid while my daughter's (18 & 23) enjoyed seeing the dolphins Blair was able to spot for us. Great Trip and it was money well spent.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback, Charles. And thanks for the pics. It was a pleasure having you and your family aboard!n
Great early morning trip out catching sharks! Caught a couple of sharks, Black Nose and Black Tip. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to spend a few hours out on the water.

Captain Blair provided an awsome day on the water. He took the time to explain what he was doing and why. I had three curious teenage boys. All three caught a shark. We saw manta rays and dolphin. We went on a four hour trip which included cast netting for bait. It was all inshore so the water was relativley smooth. A plus!
Thank you, Jason, for sharing your experience on A Live One. Looking forward to your next outing!
