Fishing around here will often see you targeting Red Snapper, Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, Scamp Grouper, Mangrove Snapper, Gray Triggerfish, Vermilion Snapper, Almaco Jack, and more if conditions are right. On these trips, it's common to troll and bottom fish.
Your fishing machine for the day is a 30' Hydra-Sports center console that holds up to 6 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Shane will supply rods and reels for you. Live bait is included, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Some fish have special regulations, including when you can keep them. Simply ask and your captain can tell you more.
You can't go wrong when you bring sunglasses, a hat, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

We had another incredible day fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with Captain Shane Thomas out of Dauphin Island! This was our second year in a row fishing with him, and there’s a reason we keep coming back. Captain Shane knows these waters, puts you on the fish, and makes the entire experience fun for the whole family. We caught a bunch of red snapper and made some awesome memories along the way! One of the things that really sets Captain Shane apart is how great he is with kids. He’s patient, engaging, and makes sure everyone feels involved and has a great time. Whether you’re an experienced angler or taking the kids out for their first big fishing trip, he knows how to make it a memorable experience. If you’re looking for a fishing charter out of Dauphin Island, I highly recommend Captain Shane Thomas. Great fishing, great attitude, and an outstanding family experience. We caught so many fish in just a few short hours, that we will be having great fish dinners for a long time. The best part was as we were coming in, our captain, Shane, saw some sargsso and knew we would find Mahi there, and boy did we. The three of us spent the next 45 minutes hauling in one delicious Mahi after another. The thing is, this was an unrxpected part of the trip. It was just Shane understanding the sea enough to identiy that rare opportunity, knowing that would be fun to catch all those fish, and then making a stop he did not have to make. We already had a reat catch, but this last unrxpected stop took it over the top. We will definitely coming back and asking Capain Shane Thomas to take us out again!

The forecasted weather was supposed to be good with 1.7ft waves. We started our trip and could tell that the forecast was WAY off. Four of our group ended up getting seasick but Captain Shane made the best of a bad situation and worked very hard to put us on fish. He took us to multiple spots that had fish. We did catch 10 keeper red snapper and MANY others that didn't measure. We also caught a lot of Trigger fish that were out of season. Captain Shane did everything he could to help those who were seasick. We will definitely book with Captain Shane and Island Life Charters again in the future!

First and Foremost, this was the best fishing trip we have ever done. We have done dozens over the years and some really good ones, but this one took the cake. Shane’s knowledge, experience and personality is what made the trip incredible. He put us on the fish from the beginning and it was an all day reeling fest. We caught Beeliners, Red Snapper, Trigger Fish, Grouper, Remora, Oyster Toadfish, Amberjack, and Cobia. if you are looking for a great experience, he’s your guy. we are definitely going to be using him again and again.

Shane is top notch and the best captain you could ask for. Had a 14 year ol girl that has never fished, she caught so many. He knew where to go. You can tell he truly loves what he does. He helped everyone and also stopped for sigjt seeing pictures. After seeing some dolphins he threw bait in to try and lure them in close to see. Will absolutely be back in April.
