Around the Bend Fishing in beautiful Soldotna Alaska offers a one of a kind fishing experience for young and old. Captain Sim and his twelve year old son Simmy are a father and son team that put you on fish and keep you laughing the whole day through. They can accommodate up to five guest on board the power boat or up to 4 on the drift boat.
They offer a 21' Willie Predator that uses a 50 HP Yamaha High Thrust motor with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots to target Sockeye or Silvers on the Kenai River in July and August, or you can also take the drift boat if you are fishing the Kasilof river for Kings or Sockeye in June.
There's a great selection of freshwater fish you can target on your journey. Salmon we target include Sockeye and Silver salmon. Also, you can catch and release Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. You and your guide will catch fish by fly fishing and spinning on light and heavy tackle. You can also sit back and enjoy pulling plugs for silver salmon.
The captain will provide you with all the tackle, fly fishing gear, lures, as well as fish cleaning and filleting. Before you depart, just make sure you have your licenses, snacks, and drinks.

Met Sim the day of the trip and he had already scouted the schedule. He decided that due to water conditions and time of the year that a drift down the Kasilof would likely be more productive than a Kenai trip. He was spot-on. First stop netted two for me and one for his son. Third stop we limited out and called it, then finished drifting to the take-out. Most scenic fishing trip of my life. The water was clear and eagles were abundant along the trip, and the river was generous with the fish. Sam is a great drift boat captain but extremely humble. He and his son are both extremely knowledgeable about the rivers, the techniques, the conservation laws. Sim added a ton of personal flare that put this trip into first place of all guided trips. I genuinely feel like I made a friend, not just had a great fishing trip. Sim and the trip by giving me the hook and leader from the fishing trip as a souvenir and momento. It was a great touch on a wonderful fishing trip. There is nothing I would have changed. The price is affordable and he went way above to make it a great trip. I will be back.

Sim and Simmy made for a fantastic trip. We caught a ton of sockeye on the Kenai. The meeting spot was easy to find, and the boat ride was very short, allowing us to start fishing within minutes. If you have your own waders, you might want to bring them along. The crew was fun, entertaining, and incredibly helpful. The boat and gear were also great. I highly recommend this trip to anyone.

Captain Sim was great. Knowledgeable, personable, he really knows what he is doing. Caught several fish and it was a wonderful time with family. He even accommodated my mother who has bad knees and a hard time being mobile. In fact, she caught the first fish from the boat while the rest of us fished in waders. 10/10 would use “Around the bend” fishing charter.
