These waters are known for Mahi Mahi, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and more – with any luck, you'll have tight lines in no time. On the day of your trip you're likely to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle.
If you're traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Feel free to bring your own snacks so that everyone stays happy and energized!
Capt. Dooper runs a 41' Luhrs sportfishing vessel that can carry up to 8 passengers. It comes with outriggers, a fighting chair, and everything you need for a productive day on the water. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. A 10–20% tip is customary to show your appreciation for their hard work.
Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don't forget to bring sunblock (non-spray), and sunglasses. Drinks will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks included on board.

Full Day up to 50 miles on January 4, 2026We booked a full-day fishing charter for our family trip out of Quepos, Costa Rica, shifting focus from our past sailfish and marlin hauls to target dorado and yellowfin tuna. This was our 8th visit to Quepos to fish (we are an extended family of anglers). The action delivered: we boated 4 out of 5 dorado, 7 out of 9 yellowfin tuna, and even 6 out of 8 sailfish as bonus fighters. Everyone from kids to grandparents hooked into fish steadily, making it a memorable multi-species day offshore. Captain expertly stayed on the fish, repositioning seamlessly around bait schools and structure 15-25 miles out. Crew hustled non-stop—rigging, gaffing, and icing fish—keeping energy high through calm seas and peak bites. The amenities provided to us, from the snacks and fresh fruit to the freshly cooked lunch were an added bonus! Highly recommend Vamanos for some of the best fishing we’ve had in years!
