6 Hour Salmon and Trout Trip
Make an adventure out of your next trip in Burlington and go fishing with Captain Thorny's Fishing Charters. Captain Robert will be your guide, giving you access to their sportfishing experience.
These waters hold game fish like Lake Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Northern Pike, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Walleye, and more, depending on when you go. You'll target your catch by light tackle fishing, trolling, jigging, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
Your adventure begins aboard a 22' C-Hawk downeast with room for 4 passengers. It has downriggers, and all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are included, as well as lures.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
You will need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
You can't go wrong when you bring sunscreen (non-spray), a hat, bottled water, and sunglasses. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

We've never fished Champlain and wanted to hook into lake trout and salmon during our week trip here, trying to figure ot out ourselves would've been impossible. Captain Thorny was fantastic, put is on lakers within 10 minutes, then great fishing the rest of the day. Took us to the special spot for salmon and sure enough, bam, bam bam. Jumping out of the water, great fights, tons of fun. His knowlegde of the lake, the fisheries and its ecosystem was super interesting to hear. Really nice, a pleasure to be on the boat with him and mate Matt. Highly recommended.
Thanks Patrick! Lots of fun with you and your family today.
Rob provided a great experience, even when the bite was slower than normal. He provided endless information about the fish, the lake, and the ecosystem on top of catching some really big fish. He was flexible with our needs and accommodated without question. I had 2 younger boys with me, and he made sure they were involved and very hands on. He even gave some good recommendations for the area. I wil be recommending all my friends who visit the area to reach out to Rob for a great time!
Thanks Greg A nice morning with you and your boys.
We booked this fishing trip on a whim when we were visiting Vermont and we are so happy we did! From the start, communication was great. Rob and Matt were intelligent, informative, helpful and really enjoyed what they do. They made the experience completely enjoyable and stress free. We had an absolutely beautiful day on the water catching a total of 20+ fish (salmon and lake trout). Rob even cleaned and filleted our fish so we could take them home to eat. We had a blast and we are already trying to plan the next fishing trip with them!
You guys were a blast! Can't wait to have you on board again.
Captain Thorny met us on time on the dock and soon we had lines in the water! It was a beautiful morning and it was early we had our first salmon in the boat and lake trout shortly thereafter. The captain and his first mate were very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this charter.
Thanks Curtt Sure was a fun morning on the lake. See ya next time!

Captain Thorny and Mate Sean worked their tails off to provide a great, successful Salmon and Lake Trout trip for this Lake Champlain rookie from NJ. They explained the fishery, hydrogeography, and local lure. I was Impressed to find out that Capt gives back: participates in fisheries research programs (I got to fill out my own Salmon catch data form), takes out Wounded Warriors, challenged fishermen, and had a Make a Wish youngster. A genuine good guy. Oh and he knows his LC fishing: my personal first/best 26”, 8# Salmon! Airborne 4x and the fight had us all shaking after the netting. Caught and released her and multiple other salmon and also many nice Lakers to live and fight another day. Also loved his good-day-on-the-water celebration ritual! Thanks Capt Thorny and Sean for a memorable day.
Wow Mike, what a trip. Truly a day to remember! Thank you for the very kind words. Enjoy your day in the mountains.
