FishBazaruto Sportfishing Charters

Opportunities like this don’t come around very often. FishBazurato Sportfishing are giving you the once-in-a-lifetime chance to fish the Bazaurto Archipelago in Mozambique. The archipelago is one of the top places in the world for giant Black Marlin fishing. Captain Duarte Rato and his crew have caught and released more Grander Black Marlins than any other crew in Africa!

You’ll spend the day fishing aboard Mozambique’s top billfish boat, Vamizi. Custom built by Gulfcraft Marine, this walk around vessel features Garmin and Furuno electronics for first-class fish finding, and her trolling spread is made unbeatable by Mallard’s carbon fiber outriggers and a Penn downrigger. With a Nova Big-Game fighting chair and a Grander series chair harness on board, you will have everything you need to tackle a huge Billfish or an awe-inspiring Giant Trevally.

While Vamizi has been designed and built with Billfishing in mind, she is a very versatile boat that can be used to fish successfully for all the various species that call the archipelago’s waters home. Blue and Striped Marlin fishing can be found out wide, and every Winter sees the annual Sailfish run in full force. With Shortbill Spearfish and Broadbill Swordfish also on the cards, it is possible to catch a Grand Slam, or even a Royal Slam, in one day.

It doesn’t stop at Billfish, though. The waters off Bazaruto are also the perfect place to plug with poppers and stick baits for GTs, Yellowfin Tunas and more, to experiment with vertical jigging or fly fishing, to fish with conventional light tackle for Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Mackerel, or to try ultra-light spinning for Queen Mackerel, Jacks or more. Whatever technique you want to use, FishBazaruto Sportfishing Charters will provide all you need for an unforgettable experience.

So if you’re ready to make your sportfishing dreams come true, book a trip today and come fish with Africa’s premier billfishing crew!

Your captain

Duarte Rato
Vilanculos, Mozambique
The son of one of the postwar pioneers of Billfishing in the Maputo area of Mozambique, Captain Duarte Rato has been fishing offshore since he was just eight years old. By the time he left school at 18 he had already been awarded his long range captain’s license and was operating a 37 ft sportfisher full time. After spending a brief period in the hotel industry after obtaining a degree in Tourism Management at Johannesburg University, he soon decided that he wanted to spend his life following his passion - fishing full time for huge Billfish and a variety of other species. He has been at the helm of Vamazi since 2003, during which time he has grown a solid reputation for being able to guide clients to giant Black Marlin. Although he has caught more Grander Black Marlin (1000 lb plus) than any other captain in the whole of Africa, he does not focus exclusively on this species: he enjoys using a whole arsenal of techniques to fish for all the various species of the Bazaruto Archipelago.
