Shaw Flyfishing
Guided fly fishing trips on the Yakima River and Western Washington lakes and streams. Unique Alpine stream trips are also available and are tailored for anglers looking to explore some of the state's more scenic and lesser-known water.
In western Washington, I guide rivers such as the Green, Cedar, Snoqualmie forks and small mountain streams, while eastern Washington trips are centered primarily on the Yakima River, one of the state's premier float fisheries.
Each trip is tailored to current conditions, skill level, and what you want out of the day—whether that means building confidence, improving technique, or simply enjoying a polished, well-run experience on good water.
Rods, reels, tackle, and flies are provided.
Before your trip, everyone in your group will need to purchase a valid Washington fishing license. You can buy one through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife or stop by a local sporting goods store.
A few essentials to bring are sunglasses, a hat, bottled water, and non-spray sunscreen. Soft drinks are included free of charge, along with light snacks on board.
If you have any questions before booking, feel free to send us a message.

I came out to Washington for business and am an avid fisherwoman from California. I really wanted to try fishing in Washington because of the beautiful scenery and loads of waterways. I looked into buying gear and leaving it here with a friend but realized I would be spending roughly the same amount anyway so I found this site and booked an all day trip with David. He is super knowledable and taught me the basics of fly fishing. And could tell I was catching on pretty quick so taught me even more techniques. He went over everything I would need to start and be good at fly fishing. The gear he had was great and he always made sure there was a rod and real ready with a fly to fish with. I was a bit timid about going out all day as it would be a lot of sun and i had a 2 hr drive back to my hotel. The whole day amount was so worth it as I got a lot of fishing time and learned a lot. I would highly suggest going fishing with David if you are learning how to fly fish or an avid fly fisher and want to catch a good amount of trout on the Yakima river. Do the full day as the more you fish, the more you'll learn with David. Thank you so much David!
If you’re looking for a fly fishing guide, I highly recommend David! This was my first fly fishing experience, and it couldn’t have gone any better. David is incredibly passionate about fly fishing, very friendly, and has a wealth of knowledge about the sport. He took the time to explain different rig setups, flies, knots, leader lengths, how to read the water, and much more. Most importantly, he taught me how to cast a fly rod, and I was even fortunate enough to catch a few different fish species during the trip! It was truly an unforgettable experience, and I learned so much in a single outing. I’m already looking forward to many more fly fishing adventures in the future. Thanks again, David!

great fishing with you Michael! so stoked we were able to get into your first fish on a fly!

If you're looking for a fishing guide who genuinely wants you to have a great day on the water, book a trip with David! From the moment you meet him, his enthusiasm is infectious. He loves what he does and you can tell he truly cares about getting you on fish. David grew up fly fishing and gear fishing in local rivers in the greater Puget Sound region. This lifelong experience translates into an incredible depth of knowledge on both freshwater and saltwater species. From rivers, the sound, lakes, David knows it all. What sets him apart is the kind of person he is off the water. David volunteers for ski patrol and has donated time and trips to Trout Unlimited, Project Healing Waters, and Puget Sound Women on the Fly. This says a lot about him, his love for the sport, and passion to increase access to fishing. David's a great guy and guide, I highly recommend him and am fortunate to now call him one of my close friends!
I’ve gone fishing with David a number of times, and have a great experience every trip. David is incredibly knowledgeable and extremely patient, which probably came in handy during our first few outings. Not only has he gotten me multiple personal bests, but he has made me a better fisherman. Highly recommend booking a trip with him!

David Shaw is an outstanding teacher of Fly Fishing! He is exceedingly knowledgeable about all aspects of the sport and is patient and kind. Best fishing guide I’ve ever worked with! Highly recommended!

Thank you for the review Eric! it was a pleasure fishing with you and Lovely! Congratulations again on your marriage!
I grew up fishing local streams around Fall City, Washington and started fly fishing when I was 7. A lot of my time on the water was also shaped by fishing in Montana, which helped build the approach I bring to guiding today. I genuinely enjoy teaching people, helping them improve, and working hard to get clients on fish while making the day fun, relaxed, and rewarding.
