
When our western freestone rivers become muddy and unfishable in the spring and early summer due to melting snow, many anglers flock to dam-controlled tailwaters. However, there are several incredible 'alternative' creeks and smaller rivers that do not 'blow out' like the more well-known fisheries.
The Clearwater is a major tributary of the Blackfoot River that remains clear because its many natural lakes that filter out the silt. We float several stretches of this river in the spring, which is often when we catch some of the largest fish of the year.
Typically the best method is to strip streamers off the bank, but big stoneflies and dry-dropper rigs can be deadly.
These waters are known for Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), and more – with any luck, it won't be long before 'Fish on!'
Looking to get the whole family outdoors? Kids are absolutely welcome! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. You're welcome to bring snacks!
You'll be dropping lines from a 13' with capacity for 2 passengers. It comes with everything you need for a productive day on the water.
Rods, reels, and tackle are provided.
You need to purchase a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain.
It's never a bad idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), bottled water, and a hat. There will be lunch and drinks. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. Lunch is provided, just reach out to learn more, especially if you have any dietary restrictions .
