Sarasota has a fish with your name on it, so let Reel Smart Charters help you catch it! Your guide for the day is Captain Jonathan, allowing you to benefit from their sportfishing experience.
Depending on conditions, you might hook into Mangrove Snapper, Great Barracuda, Tarpon, Sheepshead, Pompano, Hogfish, Redfish, Cobia, Tripletail, Flounder, Goliath Grouper, Snook, and whatever else is biting. Depending on the species you’re after, you may find yourself spinning, trolling, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Jonathan also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Families who love fishing together will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. You're welcome to bring snacks to keep 'em happy!
You'll be dropping lines from a 23' Mako center console with space for 6 passengers. It has all the essentials. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, as well as lures. Live bait is included.
There's no need to buy a fishing license, so all you have to do is look forward to your trip! Keep in mind that some fish may have harvest limits or closed seasons. If you don't know what to expect, ask the captain.
Don't leave home without sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. Food and drinks are not provided.
All trip proces do NOT include gratuity for your captain. Please remember to ask about tipping if you have any questions. Industry standard is 20-25% for your captains hard work.
If you book an inshore trip and decide to upgrade or change to a nearshore trip, there will be an additional $100 charge for the upgrade. Any speciality trip is solely focused on the targeted species.
Your trip with Reel Smart Charters is just a click away, so why not make it happen

This trip wasn’t perfect due to some unforeseen circumstances but we still had a great trip! Capt. Caleb was awesome and very good with our special needs friend. He got us on some fish including a record 25 in trout and a 19 in trout. Wish more were biting but all 5 of us caught sone fish. Capt Jonathan called after our trip concluded to see how it was. We had booked for nesr shore but due to weather conditions, we had to do in shore fishing. I’ve been on at least a dozen charters but this was the first time a captain called us personally to make sure we got what we wanted and is willing to make sure we were happy. We are extremely happy, lucky to have found them, and we HIGHLY recommend you call Reel Smart Charters! Jax Ritchey

Thank you, Jax, for the great review and recommendation! We appreciate your flexibility when the weather required us to switch from nearshore to inshore fishing. We’re glad we were able to put your group on some quality trout and make the trip enjoyable for everyone. It also means a lot to hear that our communication and follow-up stood out from your previous charter experiences. Thank you for choosing Reel Smart Charters. We enjoyed having your group aboard and look forward to fishing with you again soon!
Our crew of 5 had a ton of fun and caught a bunch of fish. Jon is super knowledgeable and happy to accommodate what our crew wanted to fish for. Will definitely be back.

Thank you so much, Sean! We really appreciate you taking the time to leave such a great review. It was a pleasure having your crew of five aboard, and we’re glad everyone had a great time and stayed on the fish. We always do our best to tailor each trip to what our guests want to target, so we’re happy to hear that made a difference. Thanks again for choosing Reel Smart Charters—we look forward to having you back on the water for another great trip! 🎣

As a local captain with nearly 20 years of experience navigating the waters in and around Sarasota, I bring a lifelong passion for fishing and the outdoors to every trip. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, I began my career in charter fishing before joining the Marines, primarily focusing on offshore adventures and big-game fishing. After retiring from military service, I returned full-time to the water and have dedicated my efforts to helping anglers of all experience levels achieve their goals — whether that means targeting trophy fish, putting fresh dinner on the table, or simply creating unforgettable experiences on the water. I am also passionate about teaching the next generation about our local fisheries, conservation, and the importance of responsible fishing practices to help preserve these waters for years to come.
