Tarawera Lakes Fishing Charters
Widely regarded as one of the best Trout fishing lakes in New Zealand, Lake Tarawera is renowned for its pristine natural environment and the majestic backdrop of the dormant volcano, Mount Tarawera. A typical catch is 5–6 pounds (2.5–3 kg), with fish reaching up to 10 pounds (4.5 kg).
Your skipper and guide, Barry Grouby, is a local at Lake Tarawera and has decades of experience catching trophy Trout on the lake.
Depending on the season, you might hook into Rainbow Trout (Steelhead) and whatever else takes the bait.
The angling techniques used are Jigging and Trolling, together with the “Drift Method” fishing style, allowing the bait to drift naturally and better attract fish below the surface. Our vessel, Tarauta, is fitted with the latest Garmin Fish Finder/Plotter electronics.
If you're travelling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! We love helping young anglers catch their first Rainbow Trout. If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board.
You'll step aboard a 20' cuddy cabin with a capacity for 5 passengers. It has everything you need for a productive day on the water. The cabin includes a retractable canopy to provide shelter from sun and rain.
You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, as well as lures. We welcome both experienced and first-time fishers.
Combine your fishing experience with a soak in the Tarawera Thermal Springs or a refreshing swim from the jetty.
Lake Tarawera trips depart from comfort of the Solitaire Lodge's private jetty and include a Chef prepared lunch from the lodge kitchen.
Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Feel free to bring your own snacks too. Alcohol is allowed in moderation; just avoid hard liquor and glass bottles.
It's recommended to bring sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water.
Each person fishing will require a fishing licence. We can assist with this at the time of booking.
