With the grounds abundant in fish, Rotorua Trout Outfitters and Skipper Julian Danby offer you some of the best boat fishing in New Zealand. Join them and have a memorable stay on the water fishing in unique surroundings.
You'll start your trip on a comfortable 17' Quintrex bass boat that can carry up to 3 fishos. It runs on a 90 HP Mercury engine, has got a wireless trolling motor for a quieter approach to the fish, and uses full-featured navigation technology which includes GPS, a fishfinder, as well as a radio.
You and your mates will be chasing after some Rainbow and Brown Trout. To catch them, you'll be trolling, spinning, jigging, fly fishing, and drift fishing, all using light tackle. You can keep or release the fish you catch and you're welcome to bring kids on your trip. Just remember that there can be no smoking while on board.
Skipper Julian will take care of all the rods, reels, and tackle, as well as fly fishing equipment. He'll also supply you with lunch, some nibble food, and drinks. The only thing you'll need to bring is your fishing licences.

It was a tough day for fishing but he worked hard to put us onto 4 solid Rainbows including a cracking 3.5kg fish to finish the morning. My boys were stoked. He really knows his stuff and was a pleasure to share a boat with. Just wish we were in a position to do a longer trip! Highly recommend getting on board.

5 Hour Trip on August 23, 2026 • 2 adultsHad a great 4 hours on Lake Rerewhakaaitu on a chilly morning with my two boys. Luckily skipper "Captain Julian" reminded us to bring warm clothes. Landed 9 rainbows with a few getting away. Glad to say the big one did not get away, this beast caught by my youngest. Thanks Captain, from 1st mate, 2nd mate, and cabin boy. Dries.

In all we caught about 13 trout - all released back into the lake and my PB of 4kg. Best for Jullian as well. Will certainly recommrnd this trip and will be back to do it again.
