Halligan Outdoors Guide Service
If you're planning a fishing trip in Southern Wisconsin, Halligan Outdoors Guide Service is your go-to destination for an unforgettable day on the water. Your guide, Captain James Cooper, is a licensed Wisconsin guide with extensive local knowledge of Delavan Lake and the surrounding waters. He is also Wisconsin's only licensed bullfrog guide, offering one-of-a-kind bullfrog gigging adventures that you won't find anywhere else in the state. Whether you're a first-time angler or an experienced outdoorsman, he'll work hard to make your trip safe, fun, and successful.
Depending on the season and conditions, you may have the opportunity to catch a variety of species, including Carp, Grass Carp, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Bullfrogs, Northern Pike, Catfish, Bluegill, Walleye, Yellow Perch, and more. Traditional rod-and-reel fishing is available, and for those looking for an adrenaline-filled adventure, Halligan Outdoors also offers exciting bowfishing and bullfrog gigging trips.
Fishing is a great way to spend time with family, and children are always welcome aboard. If you need child-sized life jackets, be sure to ask in advance, or feel free to bring your own. Bringing a few favorite snacks for the kids is always a good idea to keep everyone comfortable throughout the trip.
You'll fish from a fully equipped 20-foot center console boat that comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests. Quality rods, reels, tackle, and lures are all provided, so you can focus on enjoying your time on the water. Live bait may also be available depending on the trip, so ask ahead if you'd like to use it.
A valid Wisconsin fishing license is required for most fishing trips. Be sure to purchase one before your trip or ask Captain James for guidance. Some species may have seasonal regulations, size limits, or harvest restrictions, and you'll be informed of any applicable rules before heading out.
For your comfort, we recommend bringing:
Hat
Polarized sunglasses
Sunscreen (non-spray)

caught enough to eat then switched up to bow fishing! great experience!
Nice accommodations trip very successful!
We struggled to get the captain to reply to messages to book. The captain was talkative at the start of the morning but as the day went on and we weren’t catching any fish-he became very quiet which made it all the less enjoyable since we only caught one fish each. I originally asked to specialize in smallmouth bass but he didn’t seem to know much more about catching them than I did. At the end of the day, the Captain said “well I can say this was my worst day out ever”. We get that he can’t make the fish bite, but I had my own boat in town-I could have done what we did out in my own boat and saved the $155.00

Randy, thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your trip didn’t meet your expectations. Unfortunately, that day was one of the toughest fishing days we’ve experienced all season. I spoke with several other guides and local anglers afterward, and they all reported the same slow conditions. As guides, we can control our effort, equipment, and commitment to our clients, but we can’t control whether the fish decide to bite. I’m also sorry if I became quieter as the day went on. My focus was on trying everything I could to find fish and make the trip successful. Looking back, I understand how that may have affected your experience, and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. We truly value every client and always strive to provide the best experience possible, even on difficult days. I appreciate you giving Halligan Outdoors Guide Service the opportunity, and I wish you the best on the water.
Hi, I'm James Cooper, owner and head guide of Halligan Outdoors Guide Service. Fishing has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I grew up learning from my grandfather and uncle, who owned a campground and operated a guide service, and I was lucky enough to spend my childhood on the water. From fishing the backwaters of Louisiana to growing up in Ohio chasing Lake Erie walleye and bowfishing, I've been around the outdoors my entire life. Today, I guide anglers across Southern Wisconsin, sharing my passion through open-water fishing, bowfishing, ice fishing, and unique outdoor adventures. Whether you're targeting walleye, bass, panfish, northern pike, or looking to experience the thrill of bowfishing, I'll work hard to make your trip enjoyable, safe, and successful. I'm also proud to be Wisconsin's only licensed bullfrog gigging guide, offering a one-of-a-kind experience you won't find anywhere else in the state. At Halligan Outdoors, our mission is simple: open the door to the outdoors by creating unforgettable memories for anglers of all ages and experience levels. Whether it's your first trip or your hundredth, I look forward to sharing a great day on the water with you.
