The captain John Llanes of Makaira Resort Sea Afare Charters comes from a family of at least 3 generations of fishermen. With fishing in his blood, the captain began decking for his father in Kona when he was 12 years old. His rush isn't so much over the species – the captain enjoys all sorts of fishing. He says that jigging and bottom fishing are like Christmas – you never know what is going to come from the depths. During his fishing career in Kona his focus was on Blue Marlin as well as placing or winning Marlin Tournaments. In Fiji he is an all around Charter business with more of an emphasis on popping for GT's than what Kona offered. Fiji offers an array of all types of fishing and angling techniques and that is what is exciting. Because the charter vary to what species the anglers would like to target. One day it may be popping for GT's and Big Tunas, the next maybe hunting for Marlin or sailfish, and other pelagic species or jigging or spearfishing for Dog tooth tuna.
