Tuna Tail Charters is located in Gloucester, providing the best and most successful trips in the area. Senior Captain John DeMarco has been fishing commercially and professionally from Mexico to New England, in and offshore, for over 45 years. His experience in the local waters gives him the ability to know where the fish are.
Capt. John aims to tailor every trip so you have the best fishing adventure. Depending on what we are fishing for, bottom fishing, trolling, drift fishing, jigging, kite fishing, and popping are only a few of the techniques we use. The goal is for you to have an incredibly successful trip.
Your adventure begins aboard F/V Lobster Tales, a legendary 35' custom Duffy. It was built in Maine for New England waters. She is very large, so there is no crowding and plenty of deck space. The boat is fully equipped with 2 navigation and fish-finding systems, multiple VHF radios, a raft, a full toilet, bunks, a dinette, iced coolers, AC, and more. Beautifully finished interior, but it is a fish-catching boat.
All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included in the price so you can focus on what really matters, fishing. Your trip will include all the necessary fishing licenses for the day at no additional cost.
You'll be able to keep any legal species caught during the trip. There will be a first mate on board to help you with anything you need. Tips for good service are always appreciated.
Up for a family trip? Children ages 6 and above are welcome, and younger kids may be allowed with prior approval. This is a child-friendly and veteran-owned charter, so bring your loved ones and make unforgettable memories together.

This trip was incredible. My 13 year old son loves fishing and this was our second deep sea excursion. We were on the boat for 9 hours. Caught countless bait - mackeral and whiting - and I caught a squid! The highlight of the trip was when my son caught a 12 foot Porbeagle! Fishing is a patient sport. We may not have had a lot of big bites but we had a wonderful time on the water with Captain John and first mate Jeff. The coast of NE is breathtaking, especially in the Fall. Next time we are in Massachusetts we will be going back out on the water with Captain John and Jeff.

John and Jeff were prompt in the morning and made us comfortable during some choppy weather! During our trip they were very informative on how to fish for certain species. John and Jeff were very easy to talk to and very uplifting and encouraging while fishing. It felt like you were just fishing with family. We bought striped bass, squid, mackerel, and had a couple big bites. It was our first time deep sea fishing and they made it memorable for sure! Thank you Capt. John and first mate Jeff!

Captain John and first mate Jeff were amazing! You catch fish together; you lose fish together. Together we caught a monster tuna! John, steering the boat, Jeff and I trading off reeling. (a real bonding experience!) It was too big to keep, but John and Jeff got it all the way to the boat to take pictures and an awesome video! I came all the way to Massachusetts to try and catch a big fish and they made sure it happened! This was an amazing experience! I never thought I would catch a giant bluefin tuna like that! Bucket list? CHECK! Cannot wait to do it again. Highly recommended for an experience of a lifetime.

We had an all around wonderful experience with the charter; this includes booking it, communication with John along the way, and the fishing. We went out fishing in open water first and enjoyed catching Hollock and Cusk, and then went along the shore for striped bass (and threw in some local history). They even mongered and bagged the fish for us to take home. The boat had plent of room as well. John had a lot of knowledge over the years to know where to fish but also utilized his radio to communicate with other boaters on where the fish were biting. They worked with or son to show him how to fish. When we return, it is easy for us to repeat with John because it really was a wonderful eperience and highly recommended.

What a great trip! We had a moms and 14yo sons fishing trip. Captain John and mate Jeff took great care of us. We didn't catch anything huge in spite of trying 3 spots, but we got a big mackerel and a haddock to keep. We also caught a small cod, redfish, and sculpin. John and Jeff were very friendly and had fun with the boys while keeping everyone safe. The boat had enough room for 6 passengers and nice places in the cabin to sit and chat on the ride out and also keep us out of the spray. Highly recommend.
