Tuna Tail Charters is located in Gloucester, providing the best and most successful trips in the area. Senior Captain John DeMarco has been fishing commercially and professionally from Mexico to New England, in and offshore, for over 45 years. His experience in the local waters gives him the ability to know where the fish are.
Capt. John aims to tailor every trip so you have the best fishing adventure. Depending on what we are fishing for, bottom fishing, trolling, drift fishing, jigging, kite fishing, and popping are only a few of the techniques we use. The goal is for you to have an incredibly successful trip.
Your adventure begins aboard F/V Lobster Tales, a legendary 35' custom Duffy. It was built in Maine for New England waters. She is very large, so there is no crowding and plenty of deck space. The boat is fully equipped with 2 navigation and fish-finding systems, multiple VHF radios, a raft, a full toilet, bunks, a dinette, iced coolers, AC, and more. Beautifully finished interior, but it is a fish-catching boat.
All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included in the price so you can focus on what really matters, fishing. Your trip will include all the necessary fishing licenses for the day at no additional cost.
You'll be able to keep any legal species caught during the trip. There will be a first mate on board to help you with anything you need. Tips for good service are always appreciated.
Up for a family trip? Children ages 6 and above are welcome, and younger kids may be allowed with prior approval. This is a child-friendly and veteran-owned charter, so bring your loved ones and make unforgettable memories together.

We had an all around wonderful experience with the charter; this includes booking it, communication with John along the way, and the fishing. We went out fishing in open water first and enjoyed catching Hollock and Cusk, and then went along the shore for striped bass (and threw in some local history). They even mongered and bagged the fish for us to take home. The boat had plent of room as well. John had a lot of knowledge over the years to know where to fish but also utilized his radio to communicate with other boaters on where the fish were biting. They worked with or son to show him how to fish. When we return, it is easy for us to repeat with John because it really was a wonderful eperience and highly recommended.

Matt. Thank you for your review.grestly appreciated. You folks made the trip ,great people fun to be with. kaid is all set he know how to catch them ,great job. Thank you again ,see you real soon. there is a tuna waiting for you guys thank you Capt John
We went out with Captain John and his first Mate Jeff. They working their tails off the entire trip to ensure we had a safe, fun and productive fishing trip. Would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking to fish the Gloucester/Cape Ann area for whatever sort of fish they seek to catch. Will definitely go out with them again in the future.

David thank you for the compliment, I was a total pleasure on our part to have you guys aboard. thank you again hope to see you soon. enjoy that new boat is a nice boat enjoy. come visit thank you Capt John
We had a pleasant trip out with Captain John and First Mate Jeff. Both were very good with my son and answered all of his questions. Although we didn't have any big catches, the weather was beautiful, and the waves were calm. My son learned a lot about sonar and was very happy to gain more knowledge.

thank you Andrea it was my pleasure to have. you and your friends and son he is a very bright young man we hope to see you soon. thank you again for the kind words Capt John
We’ve fished all over on a variety of boats, using various fishing methods, with a variety captains and crews. Capt John had our safety as his top priority watching weather paterns and calling 4 days prior to departure then checking in daily up to our scheduled trip, as he had some concerns. We ended up being able to go out, and catch some fish! Jeff was personable and kept our lines baited. He and Capt John kept the boat tidy with everything in its place. Althoug the water was a little rough, you didnt feel much on that boat! like fishing with friends! highly recommend fishing with these guys if you get the chance!

thank you Stephanie and Clay. it truly a fun day ,share experience and catch fish. We hope to see you next year earlier in the season, I know what Clay wants to catch. It was like out with friends ,I thank you
Bad weather in the morning canceled our tuna trip, luckily Cap. John called an audible and we transitioned to inshore in the afternoon. We were gifted 2 giant striped bass, both over 50”, and had a great time. Thanks for a great trip!

hi Neil You and your family were awesome. what a nice family, surely a pleasure to have on the boat. The skill level was amazing. The boys bringing in those big monsters was a joy to watch. great job guys. I sincerely hope your next vacation will bring you fishing again with us. Again thank you for a great trip. Capt. John

I grew up in a family that worked on the water. I loved it, watching ships built, christened, and off-loading. Fishing was a natural end. I started at 3-4ish trying to catch whatever, graduating to Flounder, Bass, Trout, Pickerel, Strippers, Cod, Bluefin Tuna, Mahi, Sails, Marlin, etc. All types of fishing bring great joy to me and helping others enjoy is a big part of the fun of fishing.
