Gecko Sportfishing invites you on offshore and nearshore fishing charters on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. Here you have the chance to get away from the crowd and get closer to the fish and the marine world. The charter is operated by Captain Ernest Doshier who has a lifetime of fishing experience and has been serving the Ocracoke Island for more than 25 years.

His boat is a 46' Scarborough offshore sportfisher that runs on twin 980 HP Cummins engines. This spacious vessel has plenty of room for up to 6 anglers to fish in comfort, so you're more than welcome to bring some friends along for the ride.

Gecko Sportfishing can take you fishing in the nearshore waters for Cobia, Red Drum, Bluefish, and Spanish Mackerel. If you've got more time to spend on the water, head to the wrecks where Amberjack, Black Seabass, Triggerfish, and Grouper can be found, or go offshore. The offshore waters are abundant with Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna, Blue and White Marlin, Wahoo, Sailfish, and Mahi Mahi.

Capt. Ernest and his mate will provide you with the necessary fishing gear that includes rods, reels, tackle, live and artificial baits, and a fishing license. They can accommodate seasoned fishermen that fish several times a year as well as the first time fisherman. So come on down for a day to remember!

3/4 day trip with Captain Ernie
3/4 Day Trip on May 3, 20214 adults

Great experience. Ernie was flexible on timing based upon changing weather forecasts. Boat was much larger than we expected and resulted in comfortable cruising. First mate Daniel was superb. All equipment provided was in good working condition. Captain did his best to find the fish and Danial did a great job cleaning our catch upon return to the docks. It was a great experience for our party.

Half day wreck fishing
Half Day Trip – Wrecks on May 26, 20213 adults

Captain Doshier and his first mate Daniel were awesome. We caught our limit of amber Jack in about 30 minutes and wrestled with them the rest of the time. Trolled for king mackerel and tried to snag some triggerfish as well. Very personable and laid back, definitely will book with them again!

Offshore trip on the Gecko
Full Day Trip – Offshore on July 5, 20203 adults

There is no guarantee of what one will catch, but this was a perfect trip. Great captain and the mate, Daniel O'Neal was very helpful to the 2/3 of the party who had never been offshore before. We got lots of meet- bailing dolphin and best of all, the captain got me on my first blue marlin and Daniel help me get him to the boat!. Estimated 300#!

half day near-shore trip
Half Day Trip – Wrecks on August 9, 20173 adults

We'd initially booked a half-day wreck fishing charter, but opted to stay closer to shore to fish for blues and mackerel because it was rough and stormy. We're sure glad we did: we started hitting blues in the first five minutes the lines went in, and four hours later, arms tired, we'd landed about 20 bluefish along with a dozen nice Spanish mackerel. All three in our party were occasional fishermen but this was our first charter (an anniversary present to my wife); Captain Ernie and first mate Daniel were terrific throughout, both helpful, friendly, and informative (and they obviously knew where the fish were). Daniel worked hard throughout, keeping us in tackle, but he took the time to show us what he was doing so we could do it on our own, too. I'm sure most of their clients had more experience than we did, but we never felt like we were asking dumb questions. The boat itself is well maintained, stable, and comfortable--we were in rough wind and water the whole time and got tossed around, but never felt unsafe. Good facilities, no clutter, clean and easy to fish from. I'd recommend this experience (and this crew) to anyone, experienced or novice. Thanks, Ernie and Daniel!
