Captain Joe Richard has been a fully licensed fishing guide since 1994. His schedule is flexible, he can launch earlier than 8 a.m. to beat the heat. Or catch an afternoon high tide for shallow water redfish. His skiff is 16 feet long and carries two guests.
He can take up to four people, if clients rent one of the 24-foot Carolina Skiffs from Steinhatchee Marina or Sea Hag Marina, and he can drive all day. These bigger rental boats are inexpensive compared to the rest of Florida. They have lots of casting room, a pull-up Bimini for shade, they're fast and get good mileage. Each has a modern 4-stroke engine.
Seafavorites Fishing Guide Service also offers a good chance for anglers to catch a variety of fish from a small boat, from shallow flats out to two miles off the coast when the weather is agreeable.
Tackle, bait and fishing license provided. He often takes out fishing buddies, relatives, couples and father-and-son teams.
He mostly drift-fishes over grassy bottoms in 4–8 feet of clear water. Specializing is Seatrout, but also Redfish, Spanish Mackerel and occasional Bluefish. Unlike some charter boats, his crew can throw artificial baits most of the day. Or, they set out corks with bait. In warm weather he often catches live bait.
Due to the skiff's size, there is a weight limit of 230 pounds per passenger, for safe weight distribution and stress-free fishing.

My son had never been on a boat like this, so it was a great experience for him! He was so excited to catch his 1st Shark! He also hooked a stingray that broke the line before getting close enough for a picture, as well as a few other fish that broke the line. My son was all about the challenge of catching a big fish and getting to feel the fight while also being able to catch some Reds to take home for dinner! it was a perfect trip; peaceful for me since Captain took care of everything and super fun for my son since he caught lots of fish and learned new techniques! We couldn't have asked for a better day!

Was in no hurry to get back to the dock and would have stayed longer if we wanted to. Highly recommend for inshore shallow fishing. Caught Reds,Trout, Spanish Mackerel and of course to many Cat fish. But had a great time never dull. Oh also caught a 4” Hammer Head what a fight. Will do it again soon. Thanks for a great time!!

Full Day Trip on April 26, 2019 • 2 adultsLou and I wanted to fish shallow coastal water grass. I find it way more interesting then deep sea fishing. Neither of us really have much experience fishing. Joe was like the old man in the sea. He has a day full of great spots to fish. You can even eat lunch on a little island. I suggest bringing sandwiches and beer. Lou didn’t really know how to cast well. Joe was super patient and got us both going. In the end lou caught the most fish. Joe is a worldly guy, that was fun to talk too. I couldn’t have asked for a better day on the water. It is a romantic place I recommend it to anyone that is interested in fishing. Good luck

Captain Joe Richard is a skilled and enthusiastic fishing guide whose articles and photos have been used in fishing magazines since 1977, including Florida Sportsman, where he was also the book editor for 5 of their Sportsman's Best Book Titles. Years ago, he won a dozen offshore Kingfish tournaments and wrote 2 books about it. Capt. Joe has fished the Gulf of Mexico since 1965 and became a licensed fishing guide in 1994. He now specializes in targeting inshore species, such as Seatrout and Redfish using spinning gear, and loves nothing more than guiding small groups towards their personal best.
