Fishing Report: Nomad Fishing Charters Morning Trip

Captain Orlando and First Mate Arturo of Nomad Fishing Charters, took us for a morning fishing trip, despite challenging weather conditions. After waiting out the morning rain, we headed out to the water, braving four-foot seas and thunderstorms.

We purchased bait and managed a single drift offshore. However, it turned out to be an incredible bite, and we immediately hooked three fish with the first four baits in the water. We suspected a kingfish on the bottom bite, a tuna, and a sailfish.

Caleah and I fought the tuna, while I watched a sailfish run for the Bahamas.  I believe it was close to Bimini by the time it spit the hook. However, we managed to stick with the tuna and land it with the help of an excellent gaff shot by Captain Arturo.  The perfect shot made for some excellent eating later.

Instead of heading back offshore, we made our way to a nearby bridge and landed a few big tarpon bites. After three fish ate, missed, or broke off, we headed back to a single inshore wreck to “dump the well” full of pilchards.

As we fished the bottom, we had a big bite that proved to be a mystery fish, adding one more big bite to the day’s non-stop action. After feeding our last fish, we decided it was time to end our short half-day trip and head back for lunch.

We enjoyed some blackened blackfin tuna and sides at Monty’s, along with some ice-cold beverages under the tiki hut, to round out a wonderful morning on the water. Despite the challenging weather conditions, we managed to have a great day with plenty of action and landed some impressive catches.

We have never gone fishing like this before so we didn’t know what to expect, but in the end we were nothing but happy with Captain Arturo and the trip. He was very welcoming and patient seeing as I invited a cousin who had never even touched a fishing pole. We got some very nice fish and it was overall a fun atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Nomad fishing to any small group of people just wanting to enjoy a nice day of fishing. And I will be coming back next time I am in Miami!

We had a great fishing trip. Captain Orlando was a great guide, and his helper Art did a great job. They put us on the sharks. They were bigger than I had hoped for. They also let us catch some other species while on the trip. Overall great trip especially for only being a half day!!

My 9yo son and I had the best time fishing with Captain Orlando! His passion for fishing is infectious. The highlight of the trip was catching a 60 lb sailfish. Captain Orlando guided my son through the whole process, it was an experience we will treasure forever. The sharks stole the rest of our catches but we had a ball fighting the fish and the sharks! We caught some smaller fish at the end of the trip to round the day out.  I would highly recommend this charter to any fishing enthusiasts of all ages. You will not regret it! Truly worth every penny.
