Top Fishing Charters in Grenada

Fishing in Grenada

If you’ve ever dreamed of the ultimate getaway, with sandy beaches, relaxed locals, and blue seas, then you’ve probably already thought of the Carribean. Refine your vacation search to the “Spice Isle,” and spend some time in Grenada. Relax on the beach and spend some time while in Grenada fishing the beautiful Carribean Sea.

Most of the action on the island can be found in the south-west corner – in St. Georges, where most fishing charters depart from. From here, you’ll head offshore to fish for big game at the reefs and the drop-off. Here, you'll be fishing blue waters within half an hour of leaving the dock. Less than 5 miles from shore, the sea floor plummets from 80-800 feet deep, attracting serious big game fish (and even more serious anglers). It's no wonder Grenada is considered the hidden gem of Caribbean fishing.

Types of Trips

Most anglers come here with one target in mind – the Blue Marlin. They reach 700 lb on average in these waters, although granders of over 1,000 lb Marlin have been caught here. You can find them here year-round, but come between October and May for the best chances of reeling one in. As you usually need to travel 15-25 miles from shore to chase this fish, 8 hour charters are the best value.

These longer trips will also see you targeting White Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, and the delicious Mahi Mahi close to the Gulf Stream and past the drop-off. Yellowfin Tuna here can reach sizes up to 200 lb, but don’t be surprised if yours is smaller than that!

If you book a shorter trip, you’ll be able to target Barracuda, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna over the continental shelf, 8-16 miles from shore. Kingfish, Jack Crevalle, and Wahoo are even closer to the shore. These trips are good for kids and new anglers.

Looking for something new? Try night fishing for Broadbill Swordfish. These monster Billfish take a couple of hours to reel in, but are more than worth the wait for serious anglers. You’ll be fishing for this ultimate predator with lures that have LED lights attached.

Most Grenada fishing charters take place on top of the range big game fishing boats, built with sportfishing and comfort in mind. The amenities and gear on board will depend on your budget, but if you're looking for a top notch experience, Grenada won't disappoint.

What to Bring

Drinks and snacks are provided on most trips. Some captains will even make sashimi on board when you catch Tuna. Fishing gear and tackle is generally included as standard, along with your fishing license for the day.

In general, any fish you catch will belong to the boat. But the captain will usually make sure you have some fish to take home with you, which your hotel can cook for you.

You’ll need to bring your swimsuit and a towel if you plan on jumping into the water, as well as the sun essentials: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

Book a Grenada fishing trip for ultimate deep sea fishing, without the hassle of traveling offshore for hours. It’s time to lose yourself in island life and get some much needed time out on the water!

Grenada Fishing Seasons

Join in the event of the year at the Spice Island Billfish Tournament. The festival season starts at the end of January. There’s a work-boat regatta at Grand Anse Beach to look forward to.

From January to April the weather is dry and much less humid. This is a great time to see the immortelle trees flower. Carnival season continues, with parades and music galore!

Have you been out on a run with the Grenada Hash House Harriers? Run or walk through the bush every other Saturday, following a trail of flour or shredded paper. Beer awaits you at the finish line!

Head to the Tobago Jazz Experience in april, for a range of music events. March to May are the driest months in Grenada. The Barbados Reggae Festival is a big hit in April too.

Have you been to the Grenada Chocolate Company yet? Tour the chocolate factory and see the journey from bean to the chocolate bar. No trip to Grenada is complete unless you’ve brought home some Grenadian chocolate.

If you want to stay in the water, pay a visit to the first ever underwater sculpture park. Snorkel around the structures, which are now a home to marine life and coral.

Pop over to the Tobago Heritage Festival for dancing, stories, and competitions. This will last into August, giving you plenty of time to go over. Or go to Barbados for their dive festival.

On August 1 in Trinidad and Tobago is the Emancipation Day. There are concerts and educational seminars in the month long heritage festival.

Head to the St. Georges market to buy the amazing local spices and locally produced wares. Temperatures reach their highest this month but storms and hurricanes are more likely.

Blue Marlin season kicks off, and is strong right up until May. After that, you can still catch Marlin but you’ll need to work a little harder! On land, head to Barbados for the Food and Rum Festival

Yellowfin Tuna is excellent this month, with Sailfish and Wahoo both good to target too. The weather can reach highs of 31°, but there is a lot of rainfall this month too.

A lot of cruises will be coming into the Carribean this month. Ask your hotel for their arrival and head to the beach instead during that time.
