Sayulita fishing is all about reeling in trophy fish. With easy access to the productive Pacific and fantastic weather year-round, success is all but guaranteed. If you’re looking for a quieter vacation alternative to Puerto Vallarta, with fishing that’s just as good, Sayulita is the place for you.

It’s no wonder Sayulita is a saltwater angling hotspot. Staying inshore can be just as exciting as going offshore and you’ll hook into massive Roosterfish, Jacks, and Trevally. For an extra challenge, try hooking them on a fly!

If it’s a challenge and a trophy you’re after, head out towards the Tres Marias Islands. This spot is world-famous for record-breaking Yellowfin Tuna, Black Marlin, and giant Cubera Snapper.

If you’ve only got a few hours to spare, hop on a Mexican panga, heading out of Sayulita Beach. These open boats are a great way to take in the beautiful surroundings and are plenty effective in both inshore and nearshore waters. To get into really deep waters, you’ll want to dedicate at least eight hours to your trip.

There’s no better way to get out there than with a local guide.There’s no marina in Sayulita, however, so you’ll need to launch out of nearby Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta if you want fish aboard a fully equipped sportfishing vessel.

We did the morning trip and had the BEST DAY! We caught a large Mahi Mahi we are having a local restaurant cook up for us this evening and several other fish. Saw whale up close, dolphins, sting ray….my boys (10 & 13) said this was their favorite day so far! Would highly recommend Josue and his crew. Incredible.

We enjoyed dealing with Juan who was very personable. Kevy was our captain for the day and he and Gabriel worked very hard to find us fish. We caught only one skipjack but it wasn’t for lack of trying. We saw lots of bird life as well as spinning dolphins, manta rays and a humpback whale and her calf. It was a great day on the ocean and I’m sure others will find plenty of fish with this crew.

Had the most incredible day fishing with Chilo! Each of us caught a Mahi Mahi and we even caught a few skip jacks! Chilo pointed out breaching whales in route. Absolutely magical. This was hands-down the best fishing trip we have been on and it exceeded my expectations. We used live bait and there were cold beverages on board. We will definitely book with Chilo when back next season.

We booked the afternoon trip as I wasn’t sure if I would get sick on the water. I had only been fishing on a larger boat before . Is was actually pretty relaxing! We caught mahi and Spanish mackerel. (We have 2 weeks so we always book a trip at the beginning so we can cook a few nights in). Our crew was great, we actually saw quite a bit of whale action as well! I would definitely recommend this trip!

My family and I have booked several trips with Chilo and have always caught fish. He's an experienced, accomplished fisherman and a great guy. Last trip out we caught 11 good size Mahi Mahi's. To top it off, Chilo makes a mean Ceviche! Don't make a trip to Sayulita without booking a trip with Chilo. You will love it!

I had a great time with Josue out on the water. He was really nice and accommodating to our wishes. He has very good knowledge about the area and we visited a lot of different spots. It was really cool to catch strong ocean fish on a fly rod and see how it pulled out the backing line in a few seconds (I usually fish grayling/trout). I recommend this trip for anyone who wants to do that. As a bonus we also stopped to look at some dolphins and humpback whales.
