Fishing in Miami Beach

Miami Beach fishing charters are incredibly lucky to have access to mangroves, reefs, and warm offshore currents, all just a short boat ride away. Anglers here are able to enjoy year-round bottom fishing and pelagic action while being minutes away from the finest inshore species. Spearfishing to sight fishing – it can all be done here. Book one trip, and you’ll be hooked yourself!

Miami Beach inshore fishing can yield some great catches. From Tarpon to Shark, anglers of all levels can find a worthy adversary. The Biscayne Bay is home to Jacks, Barracuda, Snook, Cobia, Permit, Ladyfish, and many more. If you’re fishing offshore, Swordfish and Marlin are likely to be what you’re after. Add Tuna, Kingfish, Grouper, and Mahi Mahi to the list and you see what makes this such a popular fishery.

Inshore fishing is consistent year-round. If you want plenty of fish in a short period of time, this is the option to consider. If you still haven’t grown your “sea legs,” worry not – these waters are mostly calm. On offshore trips, you don’t always need to go far to get massive fish, but often, the further you go, the bigger the catch. For this type of quest, you’ll venture about 15–25 miles out, so don’t settle for anything less than a full day trip.

North Beach to South Beach, the city’s many marinas are home to a sea-hardened charter fleet. Sheltered on the waters of Biscayne Bay, these boats await the next opportunity to venture out into the ocean for a chance to break the records held by local legends.

Rules & Regulations

As long as your trip is with an established, professional charter, there’s not much you should concern yourself with. Fishing licenses are covered for every guest aboard as long as the captain has a valid charter captain license.

Miami Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Another year, another chance to land a monster. Sailfish are ready offshore and are biting well. Tarpon, Trout and Bonefish are found in the Biscayne Bay.

February

This is the time for Bonefish chase. Sight fishing for the ‘grey ghost’ is a thing to do if you happen to be here. They are elusive and strong. Offshore, Sailfish are still putting up a fight.

March

Offshore waters are getting hotter and hotter. King Mackerel, Tuna, and Mahi are on the chew. Inshore, you can get Shark, Tarpon, and Bonefish.

April

Mahi are readily caught offshore. Hire a charter and enjoy a spring fishing trip. Inshore, Bonefish is still found around around inshore waters. Cobia are hiding a bit further out.

May

As the summer approaches, so do many species. Amberjack, Wahoo, Mahi can all be caught offshore. Tuna are biting fine. You might get an occasional Wahoo.

June

Permit show up inshore. Don’t forget the crabs to get them to bite. Mahi Mahi are wild and feisty offshore, alongside Tuna, Wahoo, and Marlin.

July

Fish the bottoms for some fine table fare and get Snapper and Gag Grouper. An offshore trip can reward you with Kingfish and Dolphin, and other game fish may lurk nearby.

August

Go offshore to reap the still warm waters and get some record fish. From Kingfish to Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin, and Bonito are all up and running.

September

You can go trolling for King Mackerel or stay inshore and go sight fishing for Bonefish. Either way, it’s action packed. Mahi should also be solid out there, and you might even get a Marlin.

October

Now Barracuda are back to town. You can also get Permit and Shark inshore. Out there, Mahi are appearing, and Sailfish come closer to the shore.

November

The fish are on the chew and still put up a really nice fight. You can get Sailfish (no kidding) and Tuna are more prominent as well. Bonefish are still there.

December

Wahoo are biting offshore, alongside Sailfish. You can also get Tuna there. If you’re fishing nearshore, troll for Kings. Jack Crevalle are also present inshore.
