Fishing in St. George Island

Separating the stunning Apalachicola Bay from the mighty Gulf of Mexico, this picturesque barrier island is just what you need to recharge your batteries. Hop aboard one of many St. George Island fishing charters and explore the rich waters surrounding this quaint fishing town. With 28 miles of natural beaches, this angling haven will not disappoint.

St. George Island might be small, but the fish here get really big! Find out for yourself by visiting either side of the island and casting a line. In Apalachicola Bay, you’ll find species like Snook, Tarpon, Spotted Seatrout, Redfish, Flounder, and Sheepshead. Head over to the reefs, and Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack will take your bait. Venture a bit further, into Gulf waters, if you’re looking for the likes of Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish.

There’s a variety of fishing adventures here for you to choose from. If you’re up for a relaxing day of exploring the inshore fishery, a half day trip is a great choice. If, however, you’re looking to spend some time offshore, going after some big pelagics, a full day trip is the best way to go about it. You can also opt for specialized fishing trips if you’re interested in targeting a specific species.

There are fishing charters dotted all along St. George Island, so you’ll have no issues finding the perfect one for you. Just head on down to the docks and you’re all set for your new Florida fishing adventure!

St. George Island Fishing Seasons

January

At the beginning of the new year, head out to the backwaters and target prized Redfish and Speckled Trout in the bay. Take your family on a fun fishing adventure and make some memories!

February

The inshore waters of Apalachicola Bay are the way to go in February. Spend the day in these calm waters and you can expect to reel in some nice Sheepshead, as well as Redfish and Trout.

March

As the temperatures start rising, many migratory species arrive in the area. Spanish Mackerel and Pompano make an appearance, and Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder are biting hot in the bay.

April

In the bay, you’ll find Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Flounder. With warmer weather, Cobia, King Mackerel, and Jack Crevalle start coming to the nearshore waters.

May

May is a great time to head out and start exploring the deeper waters. The reefs hold a large number of Snapper and Grouper. If you stay on the flats, you’ll have the chance to reel in Redfish, Flounder, and many more.

June

As the summer slowly approaches, so do the Tarpon! You’ll find them visiting the bay, along with plenty of other species, including a variety of Sharks. Offshore, expect to target big game fighters.

July

While Redfish and Trout fishing slows down, there are plenty of other species for you to target. Mackerel, Tripletail, and Sharks are all biting nearshore, while Mahi Mahi and Marlin are ready for your bait offshore.

August

Everything’s biting in August! Inshore you’ll find Tripletail, Sharks, and Tarpon. Head out to the deeper waters, and sink your line for trophy Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, and other big game creatures.

September

Summer might be ending, but there’s no end in sight when it comes to fishing! Amberjack, Jack Crevalle, and Mahi Mahi are all biting, and you have a very good chance at landing other big game fish as well.

October

October marks the return of the Redfish and Trout bite inshore. Add Flounder to the list and land that Inshore Slam! Snapper and Grouper species are biting in the nearshore waters, so there’s plenty of action.

November

Even though the temperatures are dropping, visiting St. George Island is an enjoyable experience. Make your fishing trip an adventure by going after Redfish, Trout, and Flounder.

December

With the holiday season coming, head out on the water and spend an unforgettable time going after some prized inshore species. You’ll find Redfish, Flounder, and Speckled Trout all biting at this time of the year.
