Fishing in Kenosha

Kenosha, Wisconsin, stands as the premier destination for anglers seeking world-class freshwater fishing adventures. Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan, this region is celebrated as Wisconsin's trout and salmon capital, offering the state's highest catch-per-hour rates for trophy Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout. These deep-water giants attract anglers from across the Midwest, with professional charters providing expert-guided trips directly into the heart of Lake Michigan's most productive fishing grounds.

Beyond the open waters, Kenosha County's diverse ecosystem features exceptional inland lakes like Silver Lake and the Twin Lakes (Mary and Elizabeth), teeming with Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye. The Fox River adds another dimension to the fishing experience, where White Bass, Channel Catfish, and Carp thrive in its currents. Year-round access is guaranteed through accessible harbors, piers, and boat launches, while ice fishing enthusiasts flock to Powers Lake during winter months. From thrilling charter expeditions to serene shore fishing, Kenosha delivers unforgettable angling opportunities for every skill level.

Kenosha Fishing Seasons

January

Celebrate the beginning of a new year by heading to Kenosha for Brown Trout. Even if they're a bit tricky to find, you can still enjoy fishing the shallow waters for a nice dose of Brownies.

February

It's pretty quiet out on the water during February, as Kenosha's fishing season tends to kick off in late spring. Don't worry, though. Local guides and captains are getting their boats ready for the arrival of the season!

March

March usually heralds the start of Kenosha's fishing season. It's when Lake Michigan's waters are open for business! Your main targets will be feisty Coho Salmon.

April

Enjoy a mid-spring morning or afternoon full of great fishing potential. Head to Kenosha Harbor and target Perch and Coho Salmon with spoons, jigs, or lures.

May

Head to Lake Michigan and you'll be able to target Coho Salmon, Perch, Chinook Salmon, Steelhead… even Lake Trout are around in May! Chinooks can reach up to 20 pounds during this month.

June

Summertime, and the fishing is easy. If you are still not on the water, then don’t waste any more of your time. Head to Kenosha and hop on a charter departing for Lake Michigan, where you'll find Salmon and Trout.

July

Mid-summer is the busiest month around in Kenosha. There are good numbers of Lake Trout, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, and Steelhead out in Lake Michigan.

August

August is the perfect time to head to the lake for Coho and Chinook Salmon. That's not all, either. Steelhead and Lake Trout are also lurking within its waters!

September

As the waters begin to cool down and the season approaches its end, you can still enjoy fishing on Lake Michigan. Salmon, especially spawning Coho and Chinooks, are here for the taking.

October

Kenosha is wrapping up its season, but you'll still be able to cast a line. Cohos, Lakers, and Brownies are available. King Salmon fishing is excellent on the lake this time of year, and Steelhead bite pretty steadily.

November

In November, check out Kenosha's Oak Creek area for fish that are on the move. If the lakes and harbors are covered in ice thick enough to fish from, don’t hesitate to try out ice fishing.

December

Kenosha Harbor is the right place to nail Brown Trout and bonus Northern Pike in winter. Enjoy a late December trip right before Christmas!
