Fishing in Biloxi

Fishing in Mississippi means one thing to many people – incredible offshore angling opportunities! Hop aboard one of the many Biloxi fishing charters on offer, however, and you’ll get to experience even more variety. This city provides access not only to the majestic Gulf of Mexico’s offshore waters, but plenty of fish-filled marshes, wrecks, and reefs. If you’re looking for a diverse fishery, this is the place to find it.

If you’re all about inshore fishing, Biloxi’s shoreline and many bays are home to some world-famous, delicious species. Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder are “the Big Three” in Mississippi, and you’ll find them all here! A half day adventure allows for plenty of time to cast your line (with light tackle, of course) in these waters, but anglers looking to increase the number of fish they hook can always opt for a full day.

Want to hook some even bigger table fare? Biloxi’s reefs and wrecks are just bustling with Grouper and Snapper species, including the much-loved Red Snapper. To reach these species, an extended full day trip is a must. Want to fish the reefs but spend less time traveling? Mackerel species, Bonito, and Jack Crevalle can be hooked on shorter trips.

Then there’s Biloxi’s mighty offshore action. This part of the Gulf is packed full of oil rigs, which attract some all-star species – Yellowfin Tuna and a whole host of Marlin species, to name a few. To target these hard-fighters, you’ll need to travel at least 12 hours offshore, so opt for an extended full day trip or even a multi-day adventure to get the most out of your visit.

You’ll find a variety of charters dotted along Biloxi’s shoreline, offering everything from half day family-friendly trips to multi-day extravaganzas.

Biloxi Fishing Seasons

January

Head to the Biloxi Marsh, and you won’t regret it! Bull Reds are the main prize, but you can also bet on Speckled Seatrout, and Flounder. Mirror the fish’s metabolism, and move your lures slowly.

February

Sheepshead are said to be the safest choice this month, but Specks are also great to catch. Reds and Flounder still put up a fight. Out in the open, there's a real mixed bag – Tuna, Gag Grouper, and big Wahoo.

March

If the weather’s rough, stay close to the artificial reefs, and catch Black Drum and Sheepshead. On a sunny day, oil rigs some 30 miles offshore are a good spot for King Mackerel and Cobia.

April

Go out on a full day charter, and try to land King Mackerel. Cobia put up a great fight and lurk in deeper waters. Meanwhile, closer to the shore, start sight-fishing for Tripletail and Speckled Seatrout.

May

Rod-bending action with bull Reds takes place in May! You can also land Specks and Pompano. Further out, you can get Cobia, Shark, Jacks, and Spanish Mackerels.

June

Big names are biting in June! The annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic is the place to be! Pompano peak in summer, and Amberjack follow close. It’s time for Red Snapper, too!

July

Yellowfin Tuna swim in deeper waters, making a multi-day trip a must! Mid-summer can also yield a solid Wahoo catch, or even better, Blue Marlin! Strong Cobia bite still. Inshore, you can catch Tarpon.

August

There’s only one way to go when inshore: Biloxi Marsh, with Redfish galore! Another worthy adversary swims further off coast: Blue Marlin can be caught on longer charter trips. Red Snapper is catch and release only.

September

The waters are still warm, and Sheepshead start biting. Black Drum and Flounder can be found in these waters, and bull Redfish can be caught using your best light tackle skills.

October

Speckled Seatrout and Reds just don’t give up! Stay inshore and fill your bags with these tasty fish. Find a charter with wade fishing option, and get those boots working.

November

When the temperature drops, Black Drum gang up and Sheepshead also rise in numbers. Find inshore structure and get ready for excellent action on light tackle. Don’t be surprised if you encounter bull Reds!

December

A Tuna fishing trip is a great early Christmas present! Blackfin Tuna or Mangrove Snapper are found around the reefs, as are tasty Gag and Scamp Grouper.
