Fishing in DFW

Fishing in DFW is one of the best ways to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the metroplex. Both Dallas and Fort Worth are surrounded by lakes, so no matter what direction you head in, you'll end up on a great fishing spot within a 30-mile radius. There's always something to catch here, so you don't need to wait for a specific season – just ask yourself when you want to have an unforgettable day on the water.

When you think of Texas freshwater fishing, one fish in particular comes to mind – Bass! Lots of it! You can target Largemouth, Smallmouth, Striped, Hybrid, and White Bass. Not every lake in the area holds a trophy-sized specimen, but you can find at least one type of Bass in each spot, anytime you go. Don't forget that you can also catch tasty Crappie and heavy Catfish.

Most fishing guides offer trips ranging from 4–8 hours. Longer trips allow you to move from one fishing spot to another, try out different techniques, and get a better sense of the local angling tricks. You'll mostly use light tackle to catch your fish but if you want to jazz things up, try fly fishing or bowfishing at night.

With so many lakes around DFW, it can be hard to pick your spot. Some of the most popular destinations are Lewisville Lake, Grapevine Lake, Tawakoni Lake, and Lake Whitney. Your fishing equipment is covered by your guide, so you only need to purchase a fishing license for every angler over 17.

Your perfect getaway is so close – relax and fish in DFW!
