Catfish fishing in Thailand is all about power, size, and action. Anglers come for Giant Mekong Catfish and Chao Phraya Catfish that test even heavy tackle. You can target them in stocked lakes and in select rivers, with year-round chances and warm weather adding to the appeal.

Guides often use bottom fishing with pellets, bread, or fish baits. Float fishing keeps baits just off the bottom when fish are cautious. Spinning with sturdy rods helps control big runs near structure. Fly fishing with strong rods and large baitfish patterns is possible in calm lake corners, though it is advanced. Expect heavy line, big hooks, and strong leaders.

Most trips take place at managed lakes or park-style venues, plus some reservoir and river options. Your guide usually supplies rods, reels, bait, and a landing mat to protect fish. This is a great choice for first-timers, families, and dedicated sportfish fans alike. Wear light clothing, sun protection, and good shoes. Bring a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a camera for quick photos before a healthy release.

Thailand offers a mix of accessible fishing parks around Bangkok and Pattaya, scenic reservoirs in central and western provinces, and river stretches tied to the Mekong and Chao Phraya drainages. Southern resort areas also feature stocked lakes with fast action. These broad areas give you varied settings, from urban lakes to jungle-backed shorelines.

Regulations and venue rules can change. Check local fishing license and permit needs before your trip. Review any venue-specific tackle rules, seasons, and harvest guidelines. Many Catfish fisheries in Thailand are catch-and-release, and some species may be protected. Your guide will help you follow current rules and best practices.
