Redfish Fishing in Charleston SC
The Atlantic coast sees the largest size Redfish available to catch, and the waters off Charleston are a very good place to cast your bait. The Lowcountry hosts them in great numbers year-round, with the beginning months of summer and winter being easiest.
This is why - by May, the water warms up, bringing bait back to the low tide flats, which reds chase aggressively; November, on the other hand, sees the death of many algae and plankton in the water, making for excellent visibility conditions, which coincide with large schools of reds coming back inshore.
Similar size fish commonly school in the hundreds, often in waters less than 2ft deep. Captain Lindsay with Lil Darlin Charters can help you find the big ones.
- Redfish fishing in Charleston SC varies slightly throughout the year. High season is January, May to July and November to December. Low season is February to April and August to October. There is no closed season.
