The summer brings action to a whole new level. Around the reefs you can find Coral Trout, Emperor, as well as Pearl Perch. Amberjcaks, Mahis, Tuna, and Marlin are high in numbers.

Sweetlip, Spanish Mackerel, you name it. They are out there in the water, swimming near the reefs. There are some Tuna around the Currimundi reef.

What a start of a year! There are some juvenile Black Marlin far offshore, followed by Blue Marlin a bit closer. You can also get Spanish and Spotted Mackerel, as well as Wahoo and big Mahi Mahi.

Near the reefs you can get Sweetlip, Pearl Perch, Trevally, Tuskfish, Hussar, and more. Prepare your cameras for some nice whale sightings.

Check out the Chardon's reef. You might find some nice Sweetlip, Amberjacks, Cods, Mackerel, and juicy Snapper, as well as Moses Perch.

You could get some Mangrove Jack and Flathead around the estuaries. Some odd Snapper might hide around the reefs, with a few Sweetlips.

Reefs may produce some Mackerel. Around the Barwon Banks you could be getting some Snapper, Moses Perch, Tuskfish, and Rosy Jobfish

	Known for</h3>

	Mooloolaba comes from either mulu, the aboriginal word for Snapper fish, or mulla, the name for red-belly black snake. With so many Pink Snappers around, we'd place our bet on the first version. Mooloolaba has gained popularity in recent years, and its tourism has simply boomed. Still, the fisheries remain healthy and stay consistent throughout the year.

	To get the idea of the city's whereabouts - Mooloolaba gazes into the Coral Sea. It starts with the Alexandra Headland and stretches to the south to the Point Cartwright. The city owes a lot of its stunning fishing to the Mooloolah River that flows to the south.

	As for the fishing season, it has its benefits year-round, depending on what you want to get. Summer times are super popular, and you will see numerous charters heading out to get game fish or explore the reefs for table fare. Winter is as equally as hot for fishing, with many Snapper and Trevally making their ways around reefs. So, let's have a closer look at your options when fishing here.

	Around the Mooloolaba metro area</h4>

	Luckily, Mooloolaba inshore fishing is a very wide term. The net of canals, wharfs, marinas, river mouths, jetties, and other forms of water bodies is filled with fish. You can get them throughout the year.

	The Mooloolah River produces Bream during summer months. Some stray pelagics wonder off to the river mouth every now and then in summer. But then, Jewfish can also surprise you when fishing here during winter months. Speaking of river fishing, you can also get Australian Bass from spring until autumn upstream.

	If you scout out the other parts of Mooloolaba, you could get Flathead, Mangrove Jack, Jewfish, some Tailor and Mulloway as well. Point Cartwright mainly produces Bream year round. La Balsa Park's deep river waters fish well for Jewfish during the summer. You can also get Tailor, Bream, and some Trevally, as well as Mangrove Jack. Speaking of which, you can get them around the Buddina Canals, alongside a Grunter or two.

	Reefs</h4>

	Mooloolaba's reefs are purely rewarding. They strike that fine balance between hardcore angling and novice enthusiasm to get a tasty dinner. This means that you can get supreme action not far from the coastline.

	During summertime, you can get Mackerel and Tuna near the Gneerings Shoals in the Coral Sea. In winter, you could be fishing for Pink Snapper, Yellowtail Kingfish, Red Emperor, Pearl Perch, Tuskfish, and more. A bit further out, you could get <a href='https://fishingbooker.com/fish/dolphin-mahi-mahi/au/QL/mooloolaba'>Mahi Mahi</a> and Sailfish. On a nice day, it shouldn't take longer than some 20 minutes or so to be getting a tight line.

	Another prominent reef location is the Arkwright Shoal. It's a quick boat ride from the city and offers Snapper and Mackerels.

	As you head out further offshore, the action just gets better and better. At the 4 mile mark, the Inner Gneerings Shoal and its varied depths, from shallow waters of several feet and then up to almost a hundred, can get you Mackerel, Cobia, and Snapper. The outer Shoals, some 5 miles out produce Emperor, Yellowtail Kingfish, Pinkies, and more.

	Offshore</h4>

	Once you get past the 15 kilometer mark, it's like you've unlocked a whole new level of fishing. The first stop is wrecks around 20 kilometers offshore, where you can get reef fish and Cobia. Then a bit further out, next to some other wrecks, you can get Snapper, Amberjacks, Pearl Perch in winter.

	Barwon Banks are a real hot spot. You can get Snapper, Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Parrot fish, and many more. The banks can be up to 50 metres deep (160 feet), and it's a underwater goodie bag for anglers with patience.

When you go fishing 30 miles offshore, you'll be looking for trophy-size catches. Some of these places fish the best during the night time, so it's no trip for the faint of heart.

	The Hards 1 and 2 are renowned fishing spots northeast of Mooloolaba. They lie at the 30 mile mark and fish for Snapper, Amberjacks, some Red Emperor and Pearl Perch. Fishing is great during the night, but daylight produces outstanding fishing opportunities as well. You could get Wahoo, Marlin, Mahi, and many more.

	How much does it cost?</h4>

	If you want to book a trip for your friends and family, check out private charters. They are a great choice for fishing buddies, colleagues, and neighbors. Half day trips average about AUD 1600 for a group of dozen people. Private trips will give you an enjoyable day out. You'll have more flexibility, you can catch more fish, the captain is focused on your fishing. It basically adds up to a much better experience. A full day trip aboard a private charter is somewhere around AUD 2600.

	If you're a novice angler, you're probably want to start with a half day trip. Most likely, you will be fishing around the reefs a few miles off the coast. It takes up to a half an hour, but often much less, to get there. Half day shared trips cost about AUD 130 per person.

	And more experienced anglers? Well, you'll be heading on a full day trip if you want to land the next big thing. You could a lot of fish near offshore reefs, even on a six hour trip. You might be surprised that this reef species can actually be caught by trolling. They're notorious for attacking lures, and the only thing you have to look out for is them shooting down into the reef and breaking your line.
