The Tuna fishing Sydney offers is a great opportunity to experience big game fishing in Australia. From July to October, huge numbers of Tuna arrive off the coast. Anglers of all skill levels will enjoy reeling in these delicious fish.

What to Catch

You can target a range of Tuna in Sydney, including Bluefin, Yellowfin, and Albacore Tuna. The most common catch is Yellowfin Tuna, which on average weighs around 40 kilograms. Very lucky anglers will be reeling in Yellowfin up to 100 kilos each season, so be ready for anything. These guys will give you a great fight and an epic story to tell your mates back home.

How to Fish

You can target Yellowfin by trolling. You’ll probably get a range of big game at the end of your lines using this method. Try chunking (cubing) for great results, by throwing over a steady trail of bait that the fish can follow. Expect a visit from Sharks when using this technique.

Bluefin are the second most popular Tuna species and can range anywhere from 30–100 kilos. Once you’ve found a school, stay put and reel them in to your heart’s content. Use pilchard as bait to entice the Bluefin to the surface for great results.

While targeting Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna, it’s likely that you’ll be reeling in Albacore as a bycatch. They run smaller than their relatives, with an average weight of 35 kilos. These fish are very tasty though, so while they might not give you the same kind of fight as a Yellowfin would, they are well worth bringing into the boat. Keep using your heavy tackle, as you don’t know when a Yellowfin will bite instead.

Well the only thing that you need to keep in mind when you go fishing at all, you may or may not catch what you are looking for and that's why it called fishing and not catching. Put your faith in the Captain and crew and you will have a good day.
